I've barely read anything on this forum since the release, but here are my favorite tracks so far. Now I'll read a bunch and see what other people are digging.
Father and Son
The Word Becomes Flesh
Into The Magic Land
In fact, I think I like the second half of the album better than the first so ...

Re: Old Tunes/R35TT covers album?
I've often thought about doing a cover of "Mansel".
I love that song dearly, and I sort of feel bad for this singular criticism (nitpick?) - but the snare sound that starts half way through really bugs me. The frequency range it occupies is kind of ear-piercing, so it takes me out of the laid back ...

Re: Pitchfork's 200 best albums of the 2010's - No TH :(
I can think of several albums I like better than TH in that time span that aren't on the list either. But still, it is meaningless. Sometimes I read Pitchfork's lists and scan through clips of bands I haven't heard before. Maybe 1 out of 100 turns out to be something that I like enough to buy the ...

Re: Anybody else a little underwhelmed by the new release?
Pretty much my list too, as above, though I rarely listen to Come to Dust.
If I dial up TH on my iPod I usually go through these songs, which would make a damn fine EP.
Cold Earth
Jacquard Causeway
Telepath
Palace Posey
Nothing is Real
New Seeds

I just love how sad, but yet “wanting to remain beautiful, but never sticks”... Jacquard Causeway is... I still wish more people could relate to this track as to me it is a masterful gem that is completely unique...

Re: Anybody else a little underwhelmed by the new release?
Nihilism is a passion that is referred to by the desert fathers as the "noon-day demon." The track "Nothing Is Real" seems to me like some sort of ode to a demon, which is a stupid thing to do with music. I shouldn't have to explain why. This is common sense. Please forgive my boldness.

Re: Post-WXAXRXP Societas X Tape Tracklist & Discussion
Listened to so much 70s and 80s musical soundtrack / religious / cult music in the last few days to try and get a hit on that fretless bass track to no luck.
My first instinct would be to listen to every record Pino Palladino played on.

Re: Their guitar textures? (via Hainbach)
You couldn't get the exact same sonics as that old test equipment with pedals at all.
I agree that nothing will ever sound exactly the same as something else. I've owned plenty of vintage and modern synthesizers to know there can often be some mojo that is very difficult to recreate no matter how ...

Re: Their guitar textures? (via Hainbach)
Very cool stuff, though the "test equipment" aspect is not so much a secret recipe as the same circuit concepts can be found in many effects pedals and/or synths. Mostly what I hear in that video is different forms of distortion and fuzz (particularly transistor-based fuzz, which can produce that ...

Re: A big, BIG quandry
They know the real truth, that the Earth is actually a hexagonal prism. We live on the "top" side, which is of course flat, hence all the confusion. For proof, one need only look at the rock formations of Giant's Causeway, which is at the intersection of several very strong Ley Lines and as such has ...

This is really cool! Thanks for doing this.
What kind of baffles me are the gear references. On one hand there's Pultec, which is a legendary passive tube EQ commonly used (in one form or another) in mastering, but there's also the UREI gear, while great for tracking and/or mixing, that couldn't ...

Re: Any Ideas on the Diving Station sound?
There's definitely amplitude modulation on that sound, either from a ring modulator or a tremolo effect. Some tremolo pedals won't go fast enough to get that sound, while some ring mods won't go slow enough. But the Moogerfooger Ring Mod works, and here's my quick attempt at recreating that sound ...

Not sure if this has been discussed previously, but does anyone know what is going on outside the window in the RFTD video at 0:48-0:52? What the hell is that? Just a processing artefact?
