Became one of my favorites after repeated listens. This track is dark as fuck, so eerie. It somehow manages to sound holy and occult at the same time and don't get me started on those vocals. Something went horribly wrong.

I can't get this song out of my head nor do I actually want to.

I generally prefer listening to BoC on headphones because of all the intricate details you could miss with speakers. However some tracks on Inferno with almost danceable drums and hard-hitting bass really benefit from hifi speakers, like HHLL or Naraka. Bass just doesn't hit the same with ...

I just don't see the appeal of Fantano; he isn't a very insightful music critic at all. He doesn't have some kind of fresh angle or real-life experience that would give his takes a special edge. But is he funny? No. Is he charismatic or charming or attractive? No... So, uh, yeah, I remain baffled ...

And it's not the first album that ends on a farewell note, see Farewell Fire for example… I guess that's just their usual way to end their transmissions to us.

I think that sadly, I agree with this take. I've never heard a tune sound more like an end credits outro than You Retreat In Time And Space, and not just on an album level. It really does feel like that's the Boards of Canada End Credits theme.

I really don't want it to be, but I just can't help feel that the ending of Inferno is an end credits goodbye, topped off with a heartbeat stopping at the last moment. I do hope i am wrong, but my gut is telling me that's all folks!

They do have one more album left on their contract with Warp ...

Pet hypothesis that just popped into my head:

Perhaps Giraud's Mirror contains material that one or both brothers recorded in 1983, before they even took the name BOC. Inferno possibly finished production in 2025.

That would, technically speaking, make Inferno an album 42 years in the making ...

I watched a quick clip of him reacting to the album in real time, on a live-stream while texting people and chatting to followers between each track. Clearly the optimum listening experience that BoC intended.

To me their music just sounds better on headphones generally. That intimacy just goes so well with their general sound. Of course the fullness and soundstage is also amazing on some particular tracks so there speakers would be preferable for me, but those still sound really amazing on headphones ...

Why make ratings of other people so important? It's just opinions, even if the whole world hated the album that would be fine for me as long as I like it. All that matters in the end is what it does for you personally.

But well at least you can use one, my neighbours would murder me so it's just my focal aria's.

However I find that this record sounds much better suited on my intimate headphones setup.

Until the uplifting part comes in this song so is so extremely sad imo. And the beauty of it is that it feels like that optimism suddenly comes from nowhere, there is no build up at all, so amazing that sudden tonal shift.

I Saw Through Platonia was my 3rd pick for now, so beautiful and layered and so many hidden sounds inside that haziness.

Anyone else feeling like it's possibly more likely than ever that they perform live again considering the prevalence of live instruments on this album? Also just the general vibe, I can just see it.
