I've been asking around about AI music and it now seems unlikely that the Thrift Store Tape could have been created that way. This is a response I got from the Artificial Intelligence Music youtube channel.

I got the impression I ruffled a few feathers when I asked if AI could have any part in this. For what its worth, this is what AI did with Wouldn't You Like to Be Free.

Congratulations to everyone involved in cracking this latest ARG. Pardon me for being a bit behind but where did the tumblr and soundcloud links come from? The QR code in the flickr image? And also Sure Fred In? The voice from the STACK videos?

The first tumblr post contained the message missingtrack. See the last post on page 13.

April 7th was the day the second channel 4226 video was uploaded (the video with the link for the Seeburdz tumblr page). The other dates in the channel Onesixtyfive video were clues for the thrift store GPS coordinates (April 9th = 49).

I think the original uploader was likely the artist and that Boards of Canada had nothing to do with any of it.

G _ _ _ _ _ _ _ F _ _ _ _ _ _ = 7 6 was never deciphered, was it? The video description gave foreshadow if the numbers were converted to letters using an A1Z26 cipher and then used as a Caesar ciphertext where A=Z.

I don't think this is very likely but given the anxiety around fakes within the ...

Something else which does seem at odds with this being Boards of Canada is the VHS format. I'm no expert on things like this but wouldn't BOC more likely have used DAT? Even if they didn't back up on DAT, there are no DAT cassettes in the image the Missing Tracks Archive header was taken from.

I don't think this is Boards of Canada. The latest upload sounds like 18 carat affair with a shoegaze influence.

Something which seems at odds with Boards of Canada being behind these recordings is the American influence in the samples, footage and even the format of the date in the first Tumblr page clue. The TV excepts included on the Old Tunes tapes were from British television.

So originally there was no evidence linking Channel 4226 to the original thrift store vid but now after these links to the Eleven missing tracks vid it's a lot more believable that they are from the same source? Still not 100% proven yet the style is identical.

There is a playlist on the Missing Tracks Archive channel, which contained 45 tracks earlier and 2 hidden ones. It now contains 61 tracks and 4 hidden ones.

I wish I'd thought to try that! It does seems that if you use a Caesar cipher where A=Z gpsftibepx becomes foreshadow.
