Unusual eBay Listing for A Few Old Tunes Record

Long time reader, first time poster.

I have a search set up on eBay for Boards Of Canada. This evening I received an alert and found this:

Has anyone else ever seen this record? If so, what is it? In 25 years of collecting Boards Of Canada records, I've never heard of this.

Throwing 100 away for a scam? Really?

Why would anyone want to do this? We got the music already, and given the fact that the person did this just to screw the community, they probably wouldn’t give a shit about sound quality (if anything, it’ll sound way worse than the cassettes.)

It's only the one track, if you really are a hardcore fan then it's your 100 pounds! but personally I say pass on it.
(Do think about the possibility that the seller might also be lurking here, we've had discogs and eBay listings over the years that have gained traction on these forums, and sometimes it's an insider promotion job. Anyways, I don't percieve it to be the real deal so be careful with your cash folks.)

It's not me selling it - I just found the listing and wanted to see what other people thought. I'd love to know the story behind it. I wonder who got it made and how many were pressed.

I messaged the person selling the record, and they said it "was a limited edition gift given to me by a label industry insider." Make of that what you will. They have also offered me a 5% discount, bringing it down to the bargain price of £95.

I'm not going to buy it (even with 5% off), and I would advise anyone else to steer clear. Caveat emptor, as they say.

You can easily get one of these made yourself for less than the current price on ebay.

I think a detailed compilation of official Warp/Skam/Music70/overall BoC's merch could prove valuable. I know Bocpages has a couple of things but we've got almost 20 yrs of stuff going back so it has to get confusing for some ppl on where is what. Like pictures, when it was released, detailed quips/info, "decoys of this item exist" etc

could help the process of spotting decoys a lot faster (maybe even hinder ppl from trying it, but who knows, maybe they'd just adapt around it)

I saved the seller on eBay so I could see if it sold and the seller has re-listed the record five times in the last two weeks now. Somebody must have reported the listing.

The title and description keeps changing slightly, as have the pictures. He/she is certainly keen to get shot of it!

I noticed the same thing. I also saw that the description had changed to say that they got the record in the late nineties. I'm not sure exactly when the old tunes stuff came to light, but it definitely wasn't 1998 or 1999. Anyway, the listing has gone from eBay now. It looks like no one was going to pay £80 or so for a dodgy bootleg.
