Agreed, then I wouldn't embarrass myself jumping on something that has that sort of BoC feel, because the fakers are getting better at 1) the low fidelity 2) the melodies 3) the emotions 4) actually composing/recording something as opposed to just compiling some Mum tracks or fan covers/variations. I could be less gullible sure but that's besides the point.
The reason we have fakes, obviously, is because we don't have the legits. And yet, these releases are probably the most debated over on this forum, with only an accumulated confirmed 5 or so minutes of music from them and maybe an hour or 40 minutes of speculated tracks what with R35.
I just really, really want, say, Acid Memories, and I don't even care if it comes in a fucking green coloured jewel case that breaks easily with a shitty insert card with kerning that doesn't even have a booklet with it. I just want to hear a legitimate, confirmed version of their early music in full.
But of course, none of that, the shit packaging, even releasing this music, is BoC like.
What's the official version they aren't releasing these tapes? Mastering issues? Unlicensed sampling?
Do they just not want us to hear them?
Seriously, the more I listen to BoC pre-Hi Scores the more this eats me alive.
yep. the old stuff sounds unrestricted...freer. making music to make music. the new stuff feels more like it is trying to meet its constraints set on them by the fans...whether they want to admit to that or not. or if it is eve within their conscious control. it may subconsciously coming out that way.
i freakin' love the old stuff.
everything up to and including music has the right feels more inspired. geogaddi feels like the first time the music started tailoring the music towards to the fans. but still had the passion. headphase [to me] is when the music started sounding like it was being done for the fans.

I completely agree with the first part of what you said. The older tunes are just fun.
I'd disagree a little with some of the other stuff you said. I don't think their progression has anything to do with the fans, or at least not as much as we (the fans lol) would like to think. I think it's more a question of headiness and trying to fit "concepts" into their records. Geogaddi has so many musical and conceptual ideas. Campfire is a pretty simple concept but there are parts of it that get really musically interesting. TH is an interesting record and has good songs but most of why I like it is the context in which it was released and in which I first listened to it (as well as some of the "we are at the end of an era" sort of context and references to 1980s synth stuff), while the music is actually sort of a step backwards to earlier stuff but not as fun/inspired so I can see why older fans might be skeptical of it or just not like it.
Have I stopped making sense?

The Old Tunes, R35TT, and Boc Maxima are my most listened to Boards albums. I know that the band themselves don't like the fact that those private releases are out there, but I wouldn't trade their existence for anything. Lo-fi music that is made for the sheer joy of making it speaks to me on a deeper level than anything else because you can really feel the sincerity. Geogaddi might be their most intricately themed, Campfire their densest, and TH their most fully-realized and well put together album...but man, those simple moments like the wobbly bleeps on '5.9.78' and the cheap drum machines on 'Sequoia'...you can't replicate the nostalgic feelings of those songs with all the money and studio time in the world.

the only way to ENSURE stuff you dont want shared doesnt get passed around is....DONT SHARE IT.
people are people...it WILL spread. the better it is....the more likely itll go around.

"oh ill just make this ONE copy for a super good bud of mine" and off it goes.

so...as embarrassing or as unfinished or not ready for the public that stuff may be....ITS THE FUCKIN SHIT. dont sell yourselves short on that stuff. some of the best stuff is the simplest. stuff that gets overwerked gets diluted. stuff from the gut [for me] has the most heart.

i love little kids drawings, sometimes more than the masters cuz they are just being free with what they are doing. they dont have any constraints put on their art yet.

So does anyone remember those BoC fakes that showed up in Nov. last year?
http://www.twoism.org/forum/viewtopic.p ... start=5200
User name: Gem Atrium. The culprit is revealed.
When I first heard these bandcamp tracks my very first thought was how they sounded similar/had the same style as those fakes

so here is everything BoC that ive done. most of it is totally embarrassing. just in case any others got slid into some fake comps as old shit...this could help call em out. not that they can even pass remotely.

The track titled "Test" is great, it should be longer.

You're TRaddcliff from Youtube! Neat to see some more stuff not on your Youtube account here. I've always liked what you did to track 8 of OT vol1., better than the original IMO. Looking forward to hearing your original stuff you got there :)
