Steady on! :)

After a week and many listens, mbv is everything I hoped and nothing I feared it would be. "nothing is" is the only song I'm not bothered about. I was so relieved to hear the vocals relatively high in the mix as that element of their sound tends to get forgotten, particularly live. "in another way" is just incredible, such an astonishing melody.

My Bloody Valentine are the first band I truly fell in love with (BoC was 10 years later) and hearing mbv is like meeting up with an old girlfriend that you haven't seen in years and realising that they're older and wiser but the spark is still there. How I've missed them.

Saying this as someone who has never been a serious fan of My Bloody Valentine:

I genuinely reckon 'New You' is as wonderfully-written a tune as I have ever heard - excellent song!

^ yeah, New You is great - nice to hear Bilinda's vocals so high in the mix for a change.

It's between that, only tomorrow and in another way as highlights if the album for me.

IMO M B V is nowhere near as good as Loveless
But it is better than Isn't Anything.
My two cents.
Cheers.

The album is good, but it makes me wonder about Shields' supposed perfectionism - I mean, that flanged beat is going to be remembered as "the infamous flanged beat"...

^ 2 weeks on Sat! I'm very excited too....

I don't think the comparison with Loveless is really fair: I know I took ages to fully "get" Loveless - and I think a lot of people have said similar. It's an album that has revealed itself over the years and I'm still hearing new things. For ages I only really liked Soon and Only Shallow, and didn't like To Here Knows When at all.... Then it all sank in....

Two weeks on Sunday for me. I'm going with a friend who's only recently started listening to them, so hopefully they'll BRING THA JUSTICE.

Also, I agree completely with your words on Loveless. Had a very similar experience.

*jealous face*

Seems like quite a few people got theirs today, but I know others are still waiting. Hopefully tomorrow.

I like to imagine Kevin is delivering them all personally, like some kind of noise-rock Santa....

I think I said something similar on another forum. He's deafening all the boys and girls with gliding tremolos on his gliding sleigh... and all in one night!
