In terms of the bible, they would be considered satanic. These are the lyrics to "Nothing is real" :-

Jesus, was it you indeed
To flirt unkindly with my greed?
Promising eternal life
When you knew it was not right?
When you knew that what I'd need was willingness and comfort there?

I doubt they would conform to anything like a religion enough to be a member. Being interested in the subject, especially aesthetically, is another matter.

There are plenty of artists who choose to include strong religious themes within their music, despite the fact that they are not religious in any capacity. Why would Boards be any different?

They've expressed before that they don't pin themselves as religious by any means. Challenging an idea doesn't mean you disagree with it.
Funny that this is brought up again and again... I used to be rather close-minded when it came to religion but Boards has helped me realize why it is in our world to begin with, even slapping some common sense and respect for it. It's another tool humans have made and equipped themselves with, a matter of how it is used vs where it is used.

Absolutely not. Their true spirituality is all over their music. Can't believe I didn't see it years ago.

It's impossible to know and probably irrelevant, but my answer is I sure hope so. I'd be more curious on their opinions around Gnosticism and Narcissism.

Where does your fascination for "pagan" religions and nature come from? The track "Ataronchronon" could perhaps be seen in this context.

"Ataronchronon" is more about the fragmentation of a displaced Indian tribe, it deals with historical tragedy and injustice. While we are interested in religion, we are not religious ourselves. Our interest in both spirituality and nature, in geometry and mathematics, in the grandeur of perceiving the whole, is related to understanding what values and patterns our brains project onto the world. But perhaps the spiritual, science, logic and mathematics can stand side by side. Things sometimes don't seem to be able to be explained scientifically alone. When you hear a beautiful melody, fall in love with someone, whatever ...

Nah, but Satan is a huge BoC fan.

One might even call him a BoC SaTAN.

Not me, though.

Not Satanic, but something else that begins with the same letter.

BOC acknowledged the crimson one, but ultimately they let reddy go.

man with breasts wrote:No, speaking as a Satanist myself I don't see overly Satanic themes in their music. Real Satanism has nothing to do with devil worship. It's essentially atheistic libertarianism.
As an Orthodox Christian, I agree with you wholeheartedly - that is the truest definition of what some call “Satanism”. It is to seek eternal fulfillment in oneself (who will die) instead of From One Source All Things Depend (who is life & fulfillment itself).

May I ask as to why you chose to put the 1min and 44 seconds long silent track "Magic Window" at the end of your album, is there a significance?

Marcus: "Magic Window" is a phenomenon that creates an unusual frequency and influences the listener and their environment in a special way. On the Japanese edition of Geogaddi we have planted a bonus track "From One Source All Things Depend". It contains a variety of philosophical and religious sentiments...

Mike: This expresses the innocence of children who repeat the words and ideas of parents and teachers without much consideration for the true meaning or context. This can be seen as something both pleasant and slightly unnerving, on the other hand.
I think that for any person who still finds themselves taking this question seriously or worthy of consideration in 2025, let alone our modern age in general, I would say that geogaddi is evidently more about you than it is for you.

The irony of Mike’s quote is that you can replace “children” with “fans” and “parents and teachers” with “musicians and artists”, and the quote suddenly becomes much more relevant to - as you put it - 2025 and the modern age in general.

The In a Beautiful Place Out in the country EP features both an image of David Koresh and a reference to him in the lyrics. Geogaddi was sequenced to play at 66 minutes and 6 seconds, you have a song titled "The Devil is in the Details" and at the All Tomorrow Parties music festival, your films featured clips of people losing themselves in euphoric religious abandon. What gives with the cultish phenomena?

E: We're interested in all kinds of subjects, and I suppose we went through a patch of looking at cults and the mass mind control of religion and so on. We read a lot and pay attention to cultural events, but we view everything from a distance. We're up here in our observation point, gathering up data about all the weird shit that's happening in the world and spewing it out in some way in our music and visuals. The Davidians thing was about the shock of seeing the way the U.S. authorities handled it all.

In reality unfortunately, thanks to interviews, there's enough compelling context to be provided to support my assertion. They're doing all but spell it out for their audience.
