The song works. It seems to fit her voice and vocal style much better than Slow This Bird Down did. But my issue with it is this... BoC songs always have a narrative in my head, not told through lyrics but through instrumentation. LSD conjures very specific images whenever I listen to it, and Solange branding her own words on top makes it feel like a birthday cake with 2 layers of icing, which is overkill. And to repeat what someone else said in a previous post, her saying "Left Side Drive" a few times is cheesy and seems forced.
I do have to give her credit for one thing... The girl has good taste in music!
Nicely put! I also like my BoC instrumental since they are so good making music that creates images and and stories from soundscapes. Vocals don't me to use my imagination that much. Story is already told.

Listened to it. Wasn't bad. Will I listen to it again? Nah...

My friend always says the phrase "I'd rather eat my own face" in response to things like this... so for once, I think I'm going to steal that.
I'd rather eat my own face.
Okay fine, for the sake of being fair I listened to the first 20 or so second of vocals.
Two things: Why are people still singing like that? It's fucking annoying. And the mix is shite. If you are going to mix your vocals with a band like Boards of Canada, fine, but don't just shout over the fucking thing.
This just strikes me as typical attention whoring:
LAAAAAWLLLL LOOK AT ME! I'M MAKING MUSIC! LET'S PRETEND TO BE CHRISTINA AGUILERA SINGING NON-SEQUITURS OVER A PRE-EXISTING SONG FOR FIVE MINUTES.
Too harsh? maybe a little. But I'm sick of people taking pre-existing shit and reusing it, while adding nothing worthwhile to the "world mix" (example: DJ Shadow taking a load of samples and making "Endtroducing", fine. Cee Lo Green sampling Avril 14th and using it in a fucking Coke commercial? Fuck right off.)

I like it. Quite a lot actually. It's not normally my thing, but yeah. Thumbs up.

I played it for my wife and she liked it, but she still listens Destiny's Child if that tells you anything. She put it on her iPhone.
I still hate it.

It's an attitude I can understand. However, I've heard it so much, and I've heard it propounded so fiercely, that I often take my art in that direction on purpose - just mindlessly repurposing things of other peoples' without "adding" anything super huge of my own. I just like it when people get mad about art not being "original" enough for them.

I have no problem with people repurposing anything so long as it isn't used for commercial gain unless an agreement is made with the artist and the original artist is credited accordingly. I have no idea about this Cee Lo Green/Avril 14th thing?!

Technically, it's interpolated, not sampled... but it still pisses me off:
EDIT-

I agree that it's thrown around way too much- and generally, I look the other way as long as they are using the past to build into the future (DJ Shadow... hell even Luke Vibert and Ceephax could be considered to be doing something new with "tried and true" formulas) but it's when some mediocre hack takes the hard work that someone else has done, changes nothing, and makes a load of money, while the original artist is struggling to make ends meet.
The one that comes to mind more than anything: techno. Do any of you guys have the balls to call your new record techno? Of course not, because the word and the original idea behind it has been diluted over and over again. The guys that started techno in Detroit now call it "high tech soul" because of that very reason.
Want an example?
Compare this:
To this:
(By the way, Derrick May said in an interview that he hates the Soul Central version, and didn't want it released, but their label came to him and said that if he didn't sign off on it, they'd release it anyway. So he signed off on it, and put the money made back into his label. Doesn't exactly seem fair. But at least he was able to get something from it),
How about Dubstep? Drum and Bass? House? All of the good music is hidden underneath the mediocre bullshit, and when someone comes across it by chance, they lump it in with the rest and don't give it a chance.
That's what you do. Everytime someone releases a "dubstep remix" or whatever the latest meme is, it drags us all down. How many people have you seen dismiss the "good" electronic artists because they don't use "real instruments"? That's the result of it all, unfortunately.

Destiny's Child's vocal melodies are some of the most unique in the industry. There's always some really interesting phrasing going on. They might not be
the greatest thing in the world, but they're respectable.
Example:
- The structure in general is in the form of traditional modern pop, but the vocal melodies are constantly changing, and then this weird operatic thing comes out of nowhere for the bridge. "Say My Name" is another song that's interesting in the vocal melody and overall instrumentation.
I'm still blasting "Left Side Drive" on repeat.

A guy from Watmm called Candiru posted this "Well, I hope you guys learn to like it. My sources tell me that the new album will be featuring Solange on almost every track. And it's finally coming out this year 100% guaranteed. Perhaps MDG will be able to dispute these claims, if he feels obliged..."
Could you clear this rumour MDG? I wouldn't mind Solange on a few tracks! If BOC do the mix
Im not sure about this claim, but "something" tells me that the new album will certainly have vocals on it.
I think vocals would be fresh.

If its new tracks, why not? Rather her singing than one of the boys. The main beef I have with the stuff we've heard featuring her so far has been 1) singing over tracks that didn't need it 2) taking the whole track wholesale and not even changing the names

Blaergh..there's enough RnB running around and not enough BoC. Instrumental all the way with some weird vocal chops maybe but BoC album with full on vocal tracks..not my slice of pie really.

There was even a stupid :trap: emotion at the end of the message so..fellas should notice those WATMM-trolls immediately!

I think it was pretty obvious that he was joking.

I'm liking it because it is a new take on a song that I have listened to almost a thousand times.

Okay, after my first listen I didn't like it. I picked it up again today and realized it's not terrible ,excluding the last 30 seconds which don't work at all imo.
