i agree, any "they owe us something" is entirely bullshit

they offered their material. the customer buys it. transaction complete.

while i, too, would like to hear something about the new album, i in no way demand it, and they certainly don't "owe" it to us.

that's like saying john flansburgh of They Might Be Giants owed me a hug after the concert on saturday because i bought a ticket and showed up. he gave me what i paid for.

i didn't get a hug, either way.. :'(

if you've noticed, Turquoise, the ones who seem to have the level headed opinions seem to be the regulars on the board.
The ones who have this whole "They owe us" shit seem to be newbies.

Coincidence?

If a new album comes this year or next year or next next year I'll be the one of the first motherfuckers to buy it. With that being said, I'm through with waiting and being patient and caring. BoC don't care about us so why should we care about them?

If you don't care, mind if I get cuts at the head of the line for the next album?

We want to illuminate BoC with the spotlights and not bake them!

All this 'they owe us' is of course BS, anyone with half a brain cell wouldn't agree with that. I think because they do not gig at all, it makes the wall of silence worse.

Autechre, Squarepusher, Plaid, Clark, Aphex Twin all play live shows. They are not huge shows either, so they are not dots on the horizon. You can pay your money and go see your favorite artist up close and personal. It is there that a connection is made. Going to see a band live is part of the jigsaw puzzle.

BoC as per usual do nothing. Why is it so difficult to play for your fans? There are a few answers on the tip of my tounge but I won't speculate too much but perhaps firstly they just need to lighten up a bit. Perhaps the BoC aura of perfection would slip a little? Who knows.

I love how all the people who consider themselves true fans (i'm a regular on a web site!, look at my cred!) insist on putting words in your mouth the second you say something that goes against the grain.

things I have not said in this thread:

1. boc owes me something
2. i demand a new album now
3. mdg is a liar/phony

things i have said in this thread:

1. considering the length between releases, some sort of update (beyond those myspace updates) would be nice

the rest of you are responding to arguments that you're projecting on me.

fail!

* "some sort of update" ~ boc owes me something
* "so anyone notion that the guys are telling us they are in the studio is dubious at best" ~mdg is a liar/phony

Fredd you only construed that. Look carefully at Alzado's list.

MDG exists, and may believe what he/she writes, but the information has been flaky, as time passed.

Demand a website update (news?) or an album? I have never read anything on this silly board from anyone about being owed anything. If we are talking about a website update, which would be alot of fun to deconstruct into bits of data and file on bocpages, right, the rest uf us might be more interested in new music. Yet no one has claimed they are owed new music.

alzado, i don't think anyone is really directing the arguments at you. if they are, they probably are wrong to do so.

but other people have made those arguments in this thread and other threads. it's just a continuation of "boc this" "no, boc that" that takes place in other threads and has now made its way here. to my understanding, you're just caught in the thick of it and, since you started the thread, everyone in the back of their mind might want to blame you for it

to everyone:

arguments on the internet are silly.
there's no body language, not even voice. just words. connotations are lost and meanings are misconstrued. getting angry is dumb :(

about live shows: people say "how hard would it be to do a live show?"
they might just not want to. that is one possibility amongst many that may not be right, but that's what i think is probably true.

and, i still hold the opinion that mdg is just, whenever he can and chooses to do so, giving us whatever information he's given. if he has stopped, i'd wager it's just because he doesn't want to give out info unless he's even more certain about it himself than in the past. i dunno.

maybe we should just close this thread? this kind of argument probably ought to be hashed out, but at this point.. i don't see any good coming of it.

EDIT: looking at lens's post above me, i kinda agree with him. i'm not even so sure many people have made the claim that BoC owes anyone anything (excluding the contract with warp, of course). some may have inferred it, and some may have said it as well.. but probably not enough to warrant such retaliation. but, like most things, i don't know for sure

fredd e you're an asshole if that's how you conduct a discussion. i don't feel a need to explain myself to you. you took over the boc pages from Davidac who did all the initial work, so you're web master...not an expert.

Thanks. I stopped ignoring him and have just been assuming based on his recent kind gestures to other members of the forum of donating his BoC vinyls and whatnot that he wasn't a douchebag and maybe he would get tired of trolling and stop.

I agree that Fredd-E's assumptions were off point, however calling someone an asshole isn't going to help the situation. The conversation of whether or not BoC is still a thing and/or cactus/fish can be carried out reasonably without name calling and non-sequiturs and kool-aid and such.

what does my boc knowledge all of a sudden have to do with this discussion? if that's the way how you conduct a discussion by adding some random facts to the mix... great job! and btw I never even profiled myself as an expert. not at all. i'm just a fan of their music like most of us on this forum.

It might be me but in what sense were my remarks off point then? This is an honest question btw. I don't see it myself.

LOL Alzado states he never said that BoC owes him something but still in a lot of his posts he asks to be informed by something else than a small status update. How is that not the same as he thinking BoC owes him something? Apparently he thinks BoC owes him some proper status updates, doesn't he?

And the thing about MDG being a liar/phony is because he thinks those updates are dubious at best. Why are they dubious if they are from a solid source? He is not a phony and as such his statements are not dubious.

It's just a little derivative. There's a difference between thinking "you owe me something" and "it'd be nice if you did this". One is a request, to be acknowledged and accepted by the discretion of the receiving party. The other is a demand, insisting without any objection that what was stated by fulfilled by the receiving party.

fredd e maybe you should learn how to read.

i said an update would be nice. i said it would take little effort on their part.

i didn't say that mdg's statements are dubious. again learn how to fucking read. i said the twitter/myspace updates are dubious since MDG said they have no interest in using those sites. see what I'm doing there? i'm relying on something MDG said as a fact.

Well yes, okay. This explains a lot. A proper insight. I retract my previous statement then.
