The Valentino track is immediately obvious BOC had a hand in the production. That bass line with the drum tracks is where I hear it - and it reminds me of the Treat Em Right remix they did.
For the remainder of the Port Sulphur album, do we know if BOC had a hand in any of the other tracks?
While I do like this album a lot, and I see the obvious influence of BOC in the record. There is still no concrete evidence that Boards Of Canada are involved with the recording process. I have been searching for some with no avail, although I'm eager to be proven wrong cause I have drawn other parallels between the records sound and BOC.

All this is AI and while I find it amusing at moments, this probably has nothing to do with BOC.
not to be a buzz kill.
Im excited for new BOC soon, but when it comes we will most certainly know.
It will come with a sense of class and style that is un matched and unable to be replicated.
here's to waiting.

Very true Mr Fox, very true. The track mentioned could specifically be a type of easter egg/reference? There is mention that Boards Of Canada have produced for Port Sulphur before... but I get the impression that its mostly Douglas who made these tunes. He has been known to make music with the duo before....
Its why I'm extremely uncomfortable pointing this stuff out. I'm going to look a bit stupid if I am indeed wrong...
Maybe its a red herring? Maybe its just a sample...

Lovely seeing this just appear from below my monitor when scrolling. So thought I would triple it!

In Chapter 13 of Apollo Expeditions to the Moon (1975), Jim Lovell recalls the event: "Jack Swigert saw a warning light that accompanied the bang, and said, 'Houston, we've had a problem here.' I came on and told the ground that it was a main B bus undervolt. The time was 21:08 hours on April 13."

but what about April 29th

It's awfully quiet after the revamping, likes and merch drop.
I'm guessing they won't tie the new album into the 30th anniversary, as both the anniversary and the new album will need to stand on it's own. That means Sept. or Oct.?
Anyone think the release date will bear significance to a theme or relevance to prior releases? Or will it be somewhat random?

I can't see them co-ordinating a new release with the anniversary of a previous album, they've never done it before so why start now.
I don't personally see a new album coming out this year, if indeed it ever comes out. I would say this though, if we don't have something more encouraging than some clothes and a few Instagram likes (maybe by them, maybe not) by this time next year, then I fear it really might be over. If it is, hopefully they will have the decency to let us know either way. I would fear for some people's mental health if they didn't.

Why now? Because it's not always a 30th anniversary. Quite the significant milestone.
A few likes? 38 is more than a few. And they were spread out over 7 weeks. That's not random anymore.
By them or not is irrelevant. What's relevant is they were handed out by an official account. No trolls.
I still believe in a forthcoming album, based on the above and also:
- MDG's message in 2022
- Them uploading more and more videos to IG since late 2023
- Warp and Bleep fixing the BoC landing pages early 2025
- Merch drop
- This month Bleep posted an extensive BoC newsletter featuring Geogaddi + merch
- Yesterday Warp updated their Weekly playlist and it highlighted BoC again
IMHO it's all those little elements combined that make me believe BoC ain't dead yet.
And yes, I believe they'd have the decency to announce their final departure.

Indeed, and all the more reason why I don't think they would release a new album to coincide with it. It would just detract from the promotion of a new album which wouldn't make any sense at all. If they were to release anything on that date, it's going to be some kind of deluxe edition of MHTRTC, or a BOCSET (please no).

Why not something related to Twoism? After all, August 15, 1995, is the official release date. So that's the most important 30th anniversary that everyone could focus on. Bleep focused on MHTRTC 20 (a limited edition lithograph) + Pitchfork wrote an article with some new interview quotes for the occasion, so I think Twoism 30 is also an option. Or maybe even Campfire 20 later this year.
I don't think celebrating Twoism 30 and announcing a new single for an upcoming album are mutually exclusive. But don't worry if they only mention Twoism on that day. The year isn't over yet, right?

Yeah maybe a deluxe MHTRTC was not the best example I could have used, but Warp already reissued Twoism so I can’t see them doing it again tbh, 30th anniversary or not. I’m more inclined to agree with you on a Campfire celebration of some sort, but not to coincide with an announcement of new material, that’s just too important a moment not to have its own unique campaign imo. Why add additional noise at the same time?

No evidence exists that Boards of Canada has contributed to any Port Sulphur.
Just because he was involved with The Sexual Objects, does not mean that his work as Port Sulphur has any direct connection to Boards of Canada.
If BoC had any hand in their work, you would see the credits.
Personally, I'd be more intrigued with the fact that he has collaborated with Alan Vega.
I also highly doubt that BoC would even be interested in collaborating with a project that is so influenced by their own work. Just seems like kind of an odd move for them, I can't see them doing that anyway.

It would make no sense to make great music and not release it. Why would anyone choose not to profit from it? Perhaps there is nothing great to release.
To me, 1 hour of music output in 20 years suggests a general falling out of love with something that once defined them.
And I imagine that's hard to admit publicly.

Something else to consider...
When they released MHTRTC in 1998, their ethos of a borrowed nostalgia aesthetic circa 1974 was a big part of their charm. That is referencing a time span of approximately 24 years prior.
BOC could now reference themselves without borrowing any aesthetic at all. The trap is it would be considered a parody of themselves.
They never wanted to repeat themselves anyway. However, when they tried something different, TCH and TH weren't as favourably received as MHTRTC or Geo.
So what would you do in that position?
Appease the fanbase and make MHTRTC Part2? Followed by Part 3?
Go off grid?

I’m a painter (artist) and I teach in higher ed. I have young children, and I can speak from experience that my work has slowed down over the last 5 years and I am not comfortable exhibiting new work because I’m not satisfied with the quality. It’s a phase and I’m more than ok with it.
It’s sacred for artists to have the freedom to experiment and even make bad work knowing it’ll never leave the studio.
That said, all the signs are there. They are not done.
