Can anyone locate the photo he's using as his Profile Pic to any other band photography? It looks like something shot for an interview or promo.Davism wrote:♄ope keeper wrote:Adding 3 old likes of https://www.instagram.com/mikesandisonofficial from the possible new record post (a year old)...

Good spot. I always forget about that account. I'm more willing to believe it's actually Mike's the longer that account stays quiet.
If it is his, it's kinda neat that it's out in the open. I'm surprised that account doesn't have more followers.
Many people have tried to find out the source of this photo, but so far without success.ryetronics wrote: Can anyone locate the photo he's using as his Profile Pic to any other band photography? It looks like something shot for an interview or promo.

AI generated? no, don't think that's possibleSherbet Head wrote:Honestly looks like AI to me.
To me, it looks like a previously unseen legitimate photo, probably taken by PIC, at least 15 years old. It has then been polished up with AI, which could explain its somewhat strange appearance.Davism wrote:Anyone have a guess when this picture was taken?
When you zoom in on the hat, it does look like some sort of weird render effect. Can’t tell if that’s because it’s slightly out of focus.
I've run it through several AI image detectors and all of them say it's a real photo. Make of that what you will.Fredd-E wrote:To me, it looks like a previously unseen legitimate photo, probably taken by PIC, at least 15 years old. But 100% generated? Seems hard to believe. What's more, I suspect that there are plenty of fans experimenting with all kinds of AI tools, yet I still haven't seen any other photos like this.
Thanks for that.Chodlington wrote: I've run it through several AI image detectors and all of them say it's a real photo. Make of that what you will.
Perhaps worth mentioning: these three comments above were liked by Mike's account in less than an hour after the official Boards of Canada account gave out its very first likes in early March of this year.♄ope keeper wrote:Adding 3 old likes of https://www.instagram.com/mikesandisonofficial from the possible new record post (a year old)...

That’s a reel to reel tape zoomed in up close. almost 100% certain. I could probably replicate that picture almost exactly. It’s one of the flange windows.Fredd-E wrote:Thanks for that.Chodlington wrote: I've run it through several AI image detectors and all of them say it's a real photo. Make of that what you will.
So if the possibility that this is a genuine, previously unseen photo of Mike has become more realistic, then the quote below has also become much more interesting.

Furthermore, now I'm really curious what this is he posted June 2nd, 2024.
What can we infer from that? What is this generally used for?Soul_Slip wrote:That’s a reel to reel tape zoomed in up close. 100%. I could pretty much replicate that picture almost exactly. It’s one of the flange windows.
I infer this signifies “a next” step in production… It’s used for recording music and or mastering. I assume reel to reel is the main medium they record with being they name dropped at least three or four different reel to reel machines including a 16 track. This may mean this was finished and being sent to mastering house or that they are working on something new and this is a direct reference…Fredd-E wrote:What can we infer from that? Suddenly really hyped again, thanks Soul Slip! Glad we had a pro analyze it!Soul_Slip wrote:I infer this signifies “a next” step in production… It’s used for recording music and or mastering. More insight on the image: You can directly see the edges of the flange windows on the bottom right and top right corner. It looks like SM 468 tape to me but there are other formulas with similar grain pattern on the tape pact. You can see about half way there is a darker ring which usually happens when that region is rewound or fast forwarded more than other regions. You can see some light striating wavy light reflections on the left side going vertically, that happens due to slitting at the factory and storage.
Hello all. Been reading lurking around and reading this thread for a while. The image that Mike uploaded always looked like record grooves to me.Fredd-E wrote:Thanks for that.Chodlington wrote: I've run it through several AI image detectors and all of them say it's a real photo. Yeah to me it’s definitely a tape and not a groove from a vinyl. I will try to recreate it the best i can when I get home. It really looks like SM468 to me as it looks a little more grainy compared to other tape formulas. Which would make sense actually as it is most commonly found overseas where it is produced or was produced by first AGFA, then BASF and now RTM (recording the masters). SM468 is known for having very distinct tonal tape characteristics and lush dynamic compression and transient blending/micro-harmonic distortions, and was an industry standard for a long time along with Ampex 456 (until sticky shed syndrome showed its ugly head), and Scotch 250 and 206. Not 100% certain it’s SM468, but, it looks similar to the grain pattern style to me. You can also clearly see the edges of the flange window in top right and bottom right corner and like I said, the wavy light vertical striations are from slitting or storage. As soon as I saw that image I was immediately excited as I recognized what it was right away.GreatGizmo74 wrote:Hello all. Been reading lurking around and reading this thread for a while. But the more I look at it, yeah this does look like a reel to reel tape. My Dad has a few ¼” 8 track tapes. So I tried to recreate the photo. Pretty crap photos I apologize. But I though I’d share, as it gives some idea.
My terrible recreation.
Zoomed out a little.
Entire Tape.
Not to say that BoC used this type of tape.
This does have me every exited.
This is fantastic work, thanks for doing that.GreatGizmo74 wrote:Hello all. Been reading lurking around and reading this thread for a while.
