I've decided to create two monikers for my solo output. Trills will focus on the more textural euphoric side of things and this is a preview of my faster more beat-driven output under the name Cyclea:

@GH, thanks for the second opinion. I felt like it should be left as well tbh. Liked your track but was wondering what it sounds like if its slowed to 75-85%? Usually a track like that develops really interesting textures when that happens.
@Aged sea, Really nice. Didn't expect to hear vocals. Such a nice soft track.
@Saakki, Really liked that. I think the original also has a sustain behind it which is simply one note/chord changing every bar; if that's the route you're going down of course. Did you sample the original or use synths for the sound?
@jonnyjj74, Man this is so Clark I can't even begin to describe. Cudos on the level of complexity as well. How long did you spend on this fs? The pattern between the snare and what seems to be a kick/tom is imense. Such a vibe!

Thanks! The kick and the snare is a pretty basic pattern with a thick swing added to it. I recorded it once straight through then in Logic I cut it up manually to make it a little off kilter at times with it still making sense with everything else that is going on.Kiwibaws wrote: @jonnyjj74, Man this is so Clark I can't even begin to describe. Hey, thanks for listening. Must say I didn't think to try that with this particular track, but from feedback I'm getting I think there are some interesting textures in there as it is. Thanks again for taking the time to listen though

So, I while ago, I set my mind to accomplish a task I really wanted to try my hand at, which was to bring the harsh world of Industrial to the gloomy, moody world of IDM music.
I'm getting closer all the time:

I realize what I want to make is a dissonant album. There's too much music out there, awesome as a lot of it is, that sounds too steady...too indistinct. I find that in making greater use of dissonant, minimal melodies over long periods of time and stretch throughout the album, as opposed to consonant, elaborate melodies that play one role and then switch to another, you can invoke remembrance in a listener a lot easier. I'm not sure exactly why, but I find it's very similar to my old tastes in house music compared to now. House music is like being given a huge pie and you can't believe it's so sweet, so delicious and all right there for you. You don't have to dissect it, limit it or think from a different perspective, you can just dig right in. The downside is that you get sick of that pie really fast and you're done with it. You don't want to see that pie or you'll start to feel sick.
IDM music, in the case of artists like BoC, is like being given a small piece of candy once every so often. It's not much satisfaction at that particular moment, but in the long run, it'll keep you coming back for sweetness a lot longer than the pie and eventually, you'll enjoy it a lot more as a whole but only after enough time has passed.
BoC has demonstrated the sort of minimalist ideas I'd like to pursue with old releases such as Twoism and Hi Scores but seem to have completely forgotten about it with the more recent albums. What I'd like to do is take that model, further it until it's stripped down and rebuild it with melodic minimalism and percussive extremism.
And I think I'm about halfway done. It's pretty cool so far. : D

I finally got out of the slump I was in after I figured out how to get vsts working properly with acid pro. Also thanks to CoffeeGrapes, I have a nice little AKAI MPK mini. I've been screwing around with synths a little bit more now. Here is something I came up with. It was heavily inspired by Mass Effect 2, which I just beat. It's called 'The Future's Lament'.

This is more of an experiment than a proper song. I've been messing around a lot lately with different types of signal processing, putting soft synths through hardware synths, outboard, tape and guitar pedals as running guitar through synths, synths through pedals.. you name it. Much less productive as a whole with regards to music but I've been tying to figure out what works and what doesn't.
Here is an experiment from last saturday night. I turned on my reel to reel and recorded some omnisphere stuff through it. Really have to lower the ouput on the synth down to about -30db which is tremendously low for those of us working in the digital realm. I recorded each part individually and then ran the different stuff back into ableton keeping what I thought worked. Only added a small amount of eq where the hiss was pretty overwhelming on one part.
