At about 3:43 in Open the Light, someone is saying something in the background. Very faint, but definitely there.

Gave Geogaddi a spin this morning. I don't know why but I've never noticed before that there are a lot of similarities between 1969 and IABPOITC. Obviously I picked up on the thematic similarities with the choice of samples, the David Koresh stuff. But musically, it sounds to me almost as if they both started from the same place, the same idea. They share some DNA.

Whether they were both originated from the same idea or session, or one was an alternative version of the other, I guess I'll never know. But they are definitely related to my ear.

I only noticed recently after listening to "From One Source All Things Depend" that "Rue The Whirl" comes from "Rule the world".

Haha never noticed that! I love "From One Source All Things Depend" but I only listen to it on it's own, never with Geogaddi, it kills the mood a bit for me

I'd rather it wasn't on there, although my only other version of it was on a mix put together by Peter Serafinowicz, and it sort of overlaps with other tracks.

The weird "nuuuh" moan at 2:01 on Midas Touch.

I noticed this from the first day I listened to it, but...

Geogaddi's Japanese Version should not end with 'From One Source All Things Depend', it should have been 'From One Source All Things Depend' then 'Magic Window', because the 66:06 total time is fucked up already anyway. It only gives you 1:46 to enjoy the silence, then you cut to a track about Jesus. Though - now as I type this - when you finish listening to Geogaddi, you are probably questioning who Jesus is, and how he helped create all the scary but yet beautiful sounds on this record. However, if you're an atheist, it doesn't flow.

It most certainly does for me. The track is completely bitter, with a bit of sweet. I think it is actually a very ironic, angry and despairing track, most likely coming from whichever brother was more depressed at the time. It isn't some kind of affirmation of belief in god, I listen to these kids and think that some of them may well loose their belief as they grow older, as I did. The sad melancholic "almost there" timbre of the music is heartbreaking and I think one of the saddest parts of the album. Looking back on more innocent times, having just weathered a truly terrifying ordeal. "Let down and hangin around" - Radiohead.

That is why I think it deserves it's place as the final track, and I don't think the album is complete without it actually. It is a much more effective way to leave the listener with the overall message, versus magic window.

years ago, i noticed that during "julie and candy" there is a 2 second loop of a flute that you can barely hear in the background, that plays throughout the entire track.

I've always heard that, but I assumed that it was just part of the more obvious flute melody that's kind of in the center.

Something makes me think that "rue the whirl" means "putting in motion the whirl of events that sucks most people in and keeps them engaged in those events". It's about "ruing", putting in motion (lol), the monotony of an everyday life- the whirl. I may be wrong though

I take it to mean "regretting the whirl of every day life." Another meaning of "rue" is "to regret."

Funny that we still get a similar meaning from the title with different interpretations of rue.

That is interesting and funny.

If you see the post I quoted earlier, having made the connection I always thought the phrase "rue the whirl" is kind of how many of us think anything is possible when we are kids, hence why it is stated in such a childish way. You can just imagine a child shouting "I can rue the whirl!" after doing something awesome.
