Did you get the re-issue of Souvlaki? I would recommend that along with the re-issue of "Just For A Day" cause both of them contain bonus discs full of rareties/eps/b-sides/remixes. I bought all of them, even Pygmalion which is my least favorite but there's still some nice tracks on it.

The re-issue from Souvlaki is the same limited 2/cd from 1993 on Creation records i bought at that time. The first Slowdive EP i bought was in 1990, untitled with 3 tracks: Slowdive, Avalyn I, Avalyn II. The second was the "Morningrise EP" in 1991 also with 3 tracks: Morningrise and She Calls remixed by Alan Moulder, and Losing Today, all on Creation records.

Actually really enjoying "When the Sun Hits" by Slowdive.

The lilting almost monotonous vocals really remind me of a lost track by "Ride". That and of course the big guitars that intermittently come in.

Actually.. the more i think about this.. and the more i listen to watch me... the more tragic it becomes that this track never saw the light.

"When The Sun Hits" is a really emotional track from "Souvlaki" and one of my favourites.

yeah it seems like since they knew their contract with Creation wasn't gonna be renewed and they were getting a lot of pressure to fit a specific sound, they went decided to go all out into the experimental ambient realm with Pygmalion as a big 'fuck you' to the label.

It is amazing how much it could pass for an Ulrich Schnauss song. But it's the other way around!

I don't know how these demos got out, i found them a while ago on a sigur ros messageboard.

Well, that makes sense, because, correct me if I'm wrong, but Ulrich covers a Slowdive song off of Pygmalion on his Far Away Trains Passing By.

"40 Days" is the standout track for me right now, but with any good album my favorites are always changing. How sick would a Slowdive reunion be?

I dropped some acid last night with my friend, we went drivng on this 8 lane highway and we were the only ones on. We had loveless playin real loud with the cold air blowing in the windows, it was splendid.

you can definately hear some my bloody valentine in boards of canada. especially in geogaddi. loveless' to here knows when's backing sounds very geogaddish.

What is that about shoegaze bands? IT seems like all of them (alledgedly) released their best material on now very inexpensive or impossible to obtain eps. Or never released at all. Like that 'Watch Me' Slowdive track. Very frustrating.

Sadly, the rest of the SF59 catalog after Gold isn't very good. Jason added a bunch of new members to the band and basically they went all poppy, a la generic college radio...at least in my opinion. I'd definitely recommend seeking out The Drop, Goodbyes Are Sad, Le Vainqueur, and She's The Queen, all of which are great Gold/Silver-ish stuff.

And about the Christian thing, it is true that Jason is a Christian, Gold even has a bible verse on the inner sleeve, but it's important to consider what he said about it when asked...I can't find the exact quote but basically he told people to think of them not as a "Christian band" but as "Christians in a band". I think it's pretty obvious since nothing on Gold or Silver is very religious at all. Just simple sad breakup records.

I still cannot deny Gold, every song on it. It's the quintessential breakup album, right up there with Bob Dylan's Blood On The Tracks and Beck's Sea Change, imho. I heard a rumor that during the recording of Gold, Jason basically locked himself in the studio while tracking, and had a nervous breakdown right there. Sounds like it on the album too. Amazing.
