Is it only me who finds the idea of wanting a girlfriend who likes BoC a bit silly? There should be a thousand things higher on your list than that....

i must agree. i could give a fuck if she likes boards. although it's a definite plus if she has her own unique and strongly-opinionated love for some music or another, because being into music is just a big part of who i am so if we can relate in our fascination with music in general, i don't care if she likes the same stuff as me. actually i prefer the variety if that's the case.

Hardly the case for the girl I like, but it's a plus to share the same passion in loving music like Boards :D definitely not the most important things to the ideal person but it can't hurt

Of course, I totally agree with you but it almost seems like some people here see it as a dealbreaker. What I mean is that it should be seen as a bonus rather than a requirement.

Bingo. If I waited to meet someone who liked everything I do, as much as I do, I'd have been single forever:

"...would like to meet smart, funny, attractive girl into BoC, 1960s psychedelia, krautrock, Newcastle united, Star Wars, spaghetti westerns, the Wu Tang Clan, Guinness, bacon and single malt whisky"

My wife enjoys BoC. Not as much as I do, but she listens to them. Her favorite album is BoC Maxima and her favorite songs are Kiteracer 2, IABPOITC, 1969 and Dave (I'm A Real Traditionalist). Her favorite Singer/Band is BECK. She likes more of his older music though, such as One Foot In The Grave. She likes BECK like I like BoC. So you could imagine when BoC remixed Broken Drum for Beck. We were both speechless when it came out :D

of course other things are way more important. But i have found that in BoClovers i find a group of people (not all of course, but still strikingly many) that have a more or less same wavelength in a lot of other things apart from musical taste.
I always have the feeling that when people love BoC, you can also know a bit about their personalities and how they view life (i am not talking about opinions or likewise shit, but that something that goes way deeper). I am sure you know what i mean when i say that i like being on this forum because it makes me feel a lot less 'different' than when i am amongst other groups of people. A little bit of a 'coming home / familyish' feeling maybe?

So when i make a (rather silly, i will admit) statement like: i wish i had a boyfriend who likes BoC, i mean a lot more than just: i want him to like that particular band that i also dig. With those words i mean i want him to be a certain way. I think that's probably the same reason for a lot of guys here why they would love to find a girl who like BoC. But i might be mistaken, i am after all a pretty (overly?) sensitive, feeling, melancholic, nostalgic, soulmate & wisdom seeking human being. =]

To be honest, I think if there's any such thing as an ideal girl for me (the short answer is: there isn't, and 'ideal' is too scary a standard to hold any human to for any reason anyway - I know I would never want to be held to a standard called "ideal"), she's probably a furry too. If I were -limiting- myself to that, I'd probably have a very slim chance of actually meeting someone. Most furries I've ever met in person, I didn't want to spend more than a half hour in their company, much less date them and spend the rest of my life with them.

But what TheSilenceEchoes said about being able to relate to someone on an important interest is true for me too. The fact of the matter is that I could probably never be comfortable around someone who didn't "get" why I'm constantly drawing, thinking about, talking about, or pretending to BE a cartoon animal. I'd feel like they were always staring at some weird growth on my neck when they looked at me. By no means am I limiting myself to other furries in terms of dating, romance, or simple friendship, but that's a pretty big thing, that my significant other was at least borderline-interested by what consumes, ohhhh... most of my free time. To me, that would be less like "She doesn't like BoC" and more like "she's racist against every white person except me" (silly scenario, I know, but it's just an example. The point is, some things are like "aw shucks" and others are like "damn, this makes me feel like I'm an alien")

When I first met my wife way back in the mid 90s, we had a common interest in electronic music. She bought me SAW 85-92 on vinyl once for my birthday, we used to listen to FSOL during sexy time (when most other girls i dated before her prefered sade), she was the one who introduced me to The Black Dog. I used to think she was too good to be true. Music isn't what attracted us to eachother obviously, but her knowledge of musical acts that I enjoyed made me think I found someone special. She knew a lot of things musically that not even my closest friends that I hung out with knew. So talking about music with her was an added bonus to our relationship.

now fast forward to 2011. As my musical tastes have become more obscure, she leaned more to the accessible dance music like gus gus, yelle, daft punk, justice, etc. and I love her just the same. We still talk about music from time to time.

although she understands and appreciates Autechre (my favorites since around 1999), it just isn't her thing. her last interest in AE was Chiastic Slide. Things got too technical for her since then. But she still appreciates their direction and enjoyed herself when they came to town during untilted tour.

We once listened to Music Has The Right... once while driving. She was bored out of her mind with it. But then again, I was never a big BOC fan to begin with myself. I like them, yes... but not nearly as much as everyone here.

Sadly I haven't found any person ever...mainly because I haven't been looking in the first place! So can't comment on experience.

I guess my expectations are probably too high and I'm wound up in my own interests (mainly music listening) which I use to distract me from thinking about the lack of a partnership. I think it would be selfish of me to find and expect someone to have the same limited interests as me, but if they did like (say BoC) I would be surprised, then imagine myself listening to music happy in the company of some like minded person. Interests are important, but I always think others would fine mine boring or uninteresting.

I don't have much enthusiasm, confidence or adventure either, I like being quiet, calm, patient and just sticking to routine.

Don't mean to drag on about myself and get peeps a little down, but I do need to say something once in a while.

Being in love is great until the inevitable heart break. It's amazing how love can make you feel like nothing can harm you, or get you down and then the next it makes you feel like you just want to curl up and die and think that life is not worth living or something.

I have absolutely no desire to be in a relationship, unless I'm repressing the desire because I've been hurt and ignored too much, which causes doubt about my exact feelings pertaining to love in my mind. I used to be extremely sensitive and I could always very well relate to the unbridled ecstasy which two persons in love with each other experience, it was a theme I sought in music, film and some poetry. Nowadays relationships equal a kamikaze of the bare, vulnerable soul to me because, like the person above me says, the heart break is almost always inevitable. I realize this is a very pragmatic and nihilist view on the phenomenon, and that like anything in life being in love is a process which is prone to failure, and to apply this reasoning on your entire perception and refrain entirely from taking chances in life would be to become a hibernating robot, but that's how I feel about it. This way of reasoning has pretty much internalized in my mind so I am no longer able to choose between either way of thinking. I think of myself as an a-romantic person who is really a closeted heterosexual, or something. To be honest, the moments I was truly happy in recent years were always about good weather, good music, some beers and good FRIENDS. What I currently really want change in my life is less solitude and more friends and more good, happy times with them and not so much a romantic relationship.

i'm sorry you've also had this experience. It's the worst isn't it?

I agree. True friends are irreplaceable. They drag you through the hardest times. And family. Friends stay your friends, family stays your family. But 'true love' (i used to believe in that, but not really anymore, since the whole idea betrayed me) is different. You can never be sure your partner will keep his / her promises and not suddenly changes how he feels about you, so you'll always end up walking on eggshells, the more you love them. You don't want to screw up and lose them. Always aware of that possibily, it's killing. That's why i keep relationships and loving someone that deeply far from for me now. Perhaps forever. It's too much of a risk, especially for deep, loving, sensitive souls...
