Something like the "new old" Cryptopsy self-titled album. Everyone seems to prefer the higher scale of sounds in death metal these days instead of the old bassy low and detuned one.

I've a couple of Ulcerate albums on my PC, haven't listened to them much, but from what I remember they were quite alright. Never heard of Fallujah though. I'm mostly a fan of late 80s/early 90s stuff when it comes to death metal. I used to seek out newer bands a lot, but now that I'm more on the electronic listener side, I usually just stay to the good old classics whenever I feel like listening to metal.

From the 2000s, Repugnant's Epitome of Darkness and Engram by Beherit are probably the dearest albums to me. I'm still a huge Beherit freak, for the seventh year or so.

I haven't listened to those albums you've mentioned, I shall check them out. If you want some newer death metal with the old detuned bassy low you will probably like Defeated Sanity's new album Passages Into Deformity. As for Ulcerate's earlier albums they are a huge step behind their 2011 album, they aren't nearly as good. I don't mind the higher scale of sounds when they are done right with bands like The Faceless and Fallujah.

I got burned out on metal years ago. I'll still listen to Carcass, Slayer, Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, Morbid Angel, Type O Negative, and a few others.

That's a great list of bands that still do the trick for me. Slayer, Morbid Angel and Mercyful Fate are specially bands to whom I still occasionally return.

Just listened to this, I love when it drops into "Before you see the light...You must die!" What a tune and such a great album. This, Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss. Storming.

Oh yes indeed! My goto choon on the guitar at the moment is Seasons In The Abyss. Love playing that so much.

To be fair to the gent, it's impressive that he's playing Slayer in the first place, let alone rocking out to it, albeit incorrectly.

The only metal I really listen to anymore is Mastodon. I don't really like their new stuff though, I preferred it when they did prog-metal concept albums about monsters and astral projection and stuff.
