+1 for people that are scared of "ambient" BoC. They've been doing ambient pieces since the beginning...

I think it was the transmission video that started the rumors, with people worrying that it was also an actual track from the album. If that were the case, it would be disappointing because it's 4 minutes of nothing. I don't know how that was extrapolated into the entire album being "ambient", but whatever.

My definition of ambient must be different, because those songs you listed have lovely melodies. When I say "ambient", I mean truly boring nonsense.

What's your opinion on Brian Eno, Helios? I really really like Ambient 4, it's one of my favourites.

Anyone notice how some of the inner art looks like video captures? I like the lines of pixels, maybe it's called Moire patterns? I have to read up on that..

Well - if you feel Stars of the Lid qualifies as "truly boring nonsense" then our sensibilities are too different to reconcile here.

We may be dealing with a semantic issue here - I was assuming ambient was being used to mean "beatless" here. If you're using ambient in its technical "Eno" sense - then yeah I can see your concern if you're afraid that BoC are about to release their "Discreet Music". (No offense intended - I like that record - I'm just giving an example of 'theoretical ambient' if you will).

However - if they're about to release their "On Land", well, bring it on.

I was using it in its technical sense, yea. BoC have many amazing "beatless" tracks.

Though - to answer the other question regarding Ambient 4, I'm not really into it. It's really way too drab for my tastes (same with Stars of the Lid). They would go perfectly in a planetarium with commentary, but I can't listen to it on its own..

Pointless post here but : just dropping by to say that I'm really really really (really?,yes absolutely) looking forward to hear this new album.
Loving everything about it so far, brilliant artwork, song titles, the cosecha thing leading up to this, the fact they've been working on this for probably 8 years....I mean, this just can't go wrong. It will probably be the best thing i've heard in years.
In the meantime been listening to their back catalogue again, and yes I can safely say again that they are probably my most favorite band of all time!!!
