If there's a planetary conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn and the brothers decide to drop news of a new release on the auspicious date of 12-21-2020 during the solstice, let the Age of Aquarius begin! "We'll sail to the stars"

Hey all, I hope you don't mind a little input from a newbie to the site (well, as far as being registered goes. I figured it was time to stop being a recluse and get a damn account.)

As far as I'm aware, it hasn't been confirmed that the eclipse design is a placeholder for another release, but correct me if I'm wrong. The only thing that sows a little doubt in me that it is indeed a placeholder for something else is that the design also appears on the bottom of the website beside the Warp logo, above "2020." That makes me think Warp just intended it to be a design to represent the 2020 catalog. If the design were BoC-related, putting it next to the Warp label would be like saying the band is synonymous with the label, which, regardless of how big the band is, isn't a message any label with many artists would want to send.

Yeah. I don't think it means anything BoC related, just a Warp design.

They're going to announce an album on some random date that has nothing to do with anything. Seems from their activity that they're hinting at something in the works but when is anyone's guess. Could be next month or two years from now, knowing their absolutely glacially slow pace.

My guess also falls into the "give it a couple years" category. I don't think the pandemic would be particularly catalytic in the release of a new album, for them. Between 2013 and now, the only crazy "date conspiracy" I've bought into at all would be the January Pioneer Plaque theory, because it involves something that the band's management actually did. Wait for that, and if nothing happens, oh well. I'd expect something by maybe 2025-ish.

Still doesn't explain this site, which seems like a lot of effort to put up for something that has the same function as the release page.

Otherwise, I understand the perspective that nothings going to happen

Also just to add one more positive counterpoint, Warp have *still* been strangely silent on the release front. Normally, one of the smaller artists (aka the ones who aren't the big five from the 90s or Bibio, Lotus or OPN) would have dropped something by now. Usually some single/remix/ep.

Probably one of the reasons I'm optimistic something cool is going to happen, Maybe it'll be BOC, maybe not, but I have a feeling it'll be a treat for the new year.
Geogandhi wrote:I'm not sure I want BoC to release in this year, it's been a proper fucker. Just been isolating due to having covid and in that time me and the wife exploded and are splitting up for good. A new album would cheer me up but I don't want to associate it with this time in my life haha, that would be a horrible nostalgic trip, every listen.
So Boc, fuck everyone else, can you wait until i'm in a better frame of mind before releasing anything? Or just give everyone the old tunes in the meantime maybe, that's keep them happy for a bit ;)
Also I feel bad for shafting this post, but my condolences man. :( You may have pranked us, but I still feel it was all in good fun. And the best thing that happened afterwards was that the new official banner showed up. Almost as if spurred on by Catherine Fell, the real BOC stood up

Omg dude, seriously... stop. I wasn’t going to post on here again, but honestly after seeing the stupid crap you have been saying lately, I just had to chime in. You are turning this forum into every other social media channel that turns into a shit fest of bad political opinions. Please. Just. Stop.

So yeah, it wasn't the eclipse today. That disqualifies the adult swim theory. A shame about that, but I had a feeling that it didn't signify an eclipse. That doesn't mean the music isn't BOC, since it did sound like a TH outtake, but I don't think that's what "Turn that smile upside down" meant. Which was probably just adult swim being wacky and/or referring to this dreadful year.

This is probably the correct take. But that song sounded exactly like them.

I agree. It doesn't just get the tone right (which is what a lot of fakes strive for) but also the amount of notes. (The exact amount needed for the biggest impact, something BOC often achieve.)

But in the vast sea of vaporwave and other imitators, I could imagine someone other than BOC getting that right. I remember someone saying that you put a 1000 monkeys in a room with analog equipment and you'll eventually get a BOC track.

Also our new favorite icon is inconsequentially known as Purple-White-Circle-3. It is a separate image from the background so perhaps it actually is a placeholder?

I was also going to make up a lot of bullshit numerology with the 3 at the end, but I think Jango already did a good enough parody of numerology in this thread.

this makes sense thinking from a development perspective. if the icon were attached to the background it would not fit with other aspect ratios. That being said, this is my first time actually looking at the 2020.warp.net site on a computer and not a phone. on the computer it looks much more like a placeholder for something to come.

Dec 7th - Squarepusher
Dec 8th - Yves Tumor
Dec 10th - Hudson Mohawke
Dec 11th - Lorenzo Senni
Dec 14th - Bibio

Too early to tell if there's a pattern in when these are being posted, but as you can see there are a couple of gaps. We have 4 remaining releases to get through before we reach the finish line, which will likely take us up to early next week.

Are BoC really going to release an album a few days before Christmas?

That would be so amazing considering that releasing an album near Christmas would be the last thing I would expect.

I feel this whole "Warp 2020 Catalog" is basically a glorified Christmas list, especially since I have a feeling that whatever replaces that circle image is going to be on a lot of people's Christmas lists haha
