What the fuck is happening. First it can't connect to the server, then it shows an empty Bleep page, then it redirects to Bleep's BOC page, then it's an Error Bleep page again, then another BOC redirect and now it's back to the page not found page.

Yeah all that happened during yesterday and today. By error page I mean the current Bleep page

I'm just really confused. I lost my phone a few months ago and I decided not to get a new one and at my new job I keep asking people for their phone on breaks to check the site, every time it's a little bit different but it's never anything to get excited about. I think I'm starting to annoy my colleagues!

In another three we will get another remix with any luck. Realistically we are looking at a release date of 2019/20 at the earliest. If everyone expects them to take a fucking long time they might actually do it sooner to surprise us. Propagate the pessimism.

In a perfect world, another album would be at least 2 years away with something old this year that we haven't heard to tide us over until then.

Why, in a perfect world, would another album be another 2 years away and not sooner?

Honestly though, if I were part of BoC, I would randomly take the website down for a couple of weeks JUST to fuck with the fans. Then put up the old one with the black box filled in for TH. Then add another black box in a year and let us squirm.

A long in production album could be great eventually, a rushed album could be average forever. They've never made a great followup LP in under 4 years. I think part of this is the insistence of always doing something concept album-ish ever since Geogaddi.
I'd be the first to sacrifice cohesion if it meant getting the best of what was lying around, like MHTRTC. I don't think that will happen, but they could easily throw us a bone and alternate new LPs with unheard old material (ie. same conversation we've all been having forever)

I dont necessarily think the time between LP's matters that much. I mean look at the 8 years we waited and TH was the result, Its a nice divergence into a somewhat different direction, but I'd like to see them go back to doing what they do best, and maybe rely less on arpeggiators. TH was a record arguably lacking any trademark warm, melodic type tracks that BOC are known for. I dont think many would argue for TH being their best work, yet its the longest gap between LP's yet

I don't have too much to say about TCH that I haven't said already. It's okay but I've already listened to TH more in 3 years than I have TCH in 10. It's pretty front loaded, whether that was an intentional choice or not to have it sort of fade off into nothing as it progressed, I don't know.
That being said I can't say for sure whether more time in the oven would have helped or not. I still listen once or twice a year to see if it's grown on me, but m'm more interested in them releasing some old music and waiting longer periods of time between proper albums.

Regarding waiting longer periods between proper albums, do you feel this way about every artist you listen to or more so just with BOC? Again, does time really matter that much once its more than say, 2 years?
It was 4 years from MHTRTC and Geogaddi, 8 years from TCH to TH...so does it being double the time mean its better than Geogaddi? And to what degree? How much does 4 additional years improve? To me it didnt whatsoever, but then IM not claiming a longer wait means better material necessarily.

This "less than 4 years" thing confuses me. It was 3 years, 10 months between MHTRTC and Geogaddi, and it was 3 years, 8 months between Geogaddi and TCH. So unless you think those extra 2 months make some critical difference (FWIW I don't at all; whether I prefer Geo or TCH changes quite often, though right now it's TCH), then this argument doesn't really make sense, especially when you consider there were two EPs (Peel Session and IABPOITC) between MHTRTC and Geo but nothing between Geo and TCH.

If you think it's frontloaded, then I believe your copy might have had a reversed track listing from the actual album, because my favorite songs are all in the second half, with the exception of Chromakey Dreamcoat. I think Geogaddi is the one that should have had more time to finish, since it sounds very incomplete and disjointed to me, with tracks like Beware the Friendly Stranger and 1969 that don't fit in the album at all and a general sound that doesn't strike me as something Boards of Canada would ever have produced if I had only heard their other releases. It sounds significantly more overcomplicated and messy than anything else they've released.

Random Observation: Did anyone notice the cover of TCH on the bleep website is more damaged than the original cover? When you click it it reverts back to the original cover. I wonder if it's a clue...

Great artists always have a period of their career where the output flows and almost everything is gold, and it seems effortless (even though we know it isn't!) I think they were in that type of zone from 1995-2002 and all of that material feels like it belongs together, always building on what came before. It's all of one universe, if that makes sense. You reach a point where creating becomes more challenging as time goes on, expectations in the back of your mind and not wanting to repeat yourself.
IABPOITC is cut from the same material they wrote and recorded for Geogaddi. It was interesting to see that they were audacious enough to pull a 180 midway through, working on things that had a sound like Spiro and XYZ closer to the time of MHTRTC and then completely abandoning that approach midway. They've talked about how some aspects of their sound from 1995-1998 were a compromise of sorts, and it seemed like they were initially moving even further in that "compromise" direction at first.
With TCH, they went out of their way to break away from the corner they (and we) had put them in. Geogaddi was the summation of this period of creativity and then they decided to figure out a way to make a BoC album without many of the tropes that they'd come to rely on. I think TCH sounds both over and under produced, I think the success of Geogaddi got to them and it just sounds like they tried too hard. I'm glad that they challenged themselves, they had to really.
I'm glad that some people enjoy it, it's really a testament to the quality of their work that different people can have clear favorites or least favorites. It's still better than 95% of the stuff out there. I'd just like them to shelve the idea of having to patiently wait until an hour or so of material comes together that seems to belong together in their minds. I just want more instincts, no fear of slapping together something like a MHTRTC or an OT tape that plays well but isn't necessarily beholden to a particular set of rules. I think they would be more prolific if they weren't perfectionists on that front, my favorites of theirs tend to be a mishmash of moods and sounds that isn't taking itself too seriously.
tl;dr, it might be a 2 month difference, but Geogaddi just felt like it had way more time to develop, probably because they weren't trying to reinvent themselves, it was a natural progression from MHTRTC, some of which we can only hear on live tapes.
