i think opothecary just meant its a drag – and this definitely exists in the usa – to need to speak of things in a political context all the time, to have anything that deviates from convention labeled as 'left wing' when its normalcy is completely relative.

The more I listen to this next to the original, the more impressed I am at how they seem to have zeroed in on what it needed, and seemingly added so little to it but blimey, it all works.

I would love it. There's not as much to pick through, which is what I think many people want from their music, but I think the straightforward sounds are really refreshing.

Also, I wanted to note the ending- where is sounds like they are repeating "We are of the sun" or something like that reminds me a lot of the end of "Aquarius" with the kids repeating ""We'll sail to the stars."

Not super interesting, but I'll grasp at what straws I can find.

I now appreciate the skilfulness of BoC to make something at least good out of a bad source. Further evidence of this comes from the Nevermen remix.

Exactly, and the sounds themselves become more important. To me, they are so good at what they do they don't need all the extra bells and whistles, they could just make a song with just a handfull of recordings and it would sound breathtaking. People tend to forget about the power of a single sound. Olson is a good example. Three instruments, that's it. What it does to the butterflies in your belly is something else. It could even enhance the story by giving certain resonance or timbre more room to really speak.

I'm also a bit weirded out by the negative views on the nosdam record. Making music like nosdam, or music in general really, is not supposed to be a painstaking process artists like aphex twin or boc would like to make you believe, music can be really fucking great regardless, if the soul and imagery is there. A lot of musicians, electronic musicians especially, love to pretend they worked harder on a record then they actually did. They are almost expected to do so. And I know certain musical techniques may sound like hard work/magic to implement to the untrained ear, in most cases they are not. I remember when I was younger I thought "that must have been so hard to write/record/whatever" all the time, now that I've learned a few things about composing and producing, those thoughts have pretty much vanished. Things become more about aesthetics and ideas and less about the hard work. I guess what I'm saying is; except for daily practice and honing your skills, something that is not hard to do if you aspire to be a musician, it is not hard, time-consuming work to make good track.

Fun fact: Miles Davis's Kind of Blue was fully recorded in only a couple of TAKES and is considered one of the greatest records ever created and to me is proof that a skilled and inspired musician doesn't need anything, including time or hard engineering, but his instrument (and in miles's case; heroin) to create good fucking music.

I understand that time taken is irrelevant when considering music. The Beatles first album is a classic example. However, sometimes, a piece simply does sound like it was knocked together quickly without much thought. The original 'Sisters' sounds completely throwaway to me. BoC focused on proper attention to rhythmic detail and it paid dividends. The drum track on the original is ridiculous imo. I think it would sound better off without it, but then I'm guessing that the drum track was the only real addition ON made to the original source tape. Sticking a bass drum/cymbal crash accent now and again over another track doesn't qualify as a great musical idea imo.

Sorry if I came on a little strong. If you are an outsider and your general understanding of the current American political and cultural climate is just through Wikipedia, or the BBC or whatever, I guess I can't blame you for innocently throwing around terms like left wing or right wing when describing the political environment here even when those terms aren't relevant to the subject matter. The Bread and Puppet Theater people probably aren't going to attend a Trump rally anytime soon, but why is that even relevant to the discussion?

Full disclosure, I probably did too many psychedelics in the early to mid 00s and the result is that it sort of permanently made me very aloof about the political process here and extra cognizant of the way that some people let themselves become marginalized for someone else's cause, usually a someone else who probably lives a very different day to day socio-economic existence than the person that they are looking up to.

America is a very binary, puritanical place in general, so there is very little room for viable 3rd or 4th choices and that's especially true for our politics. It's all about the good and evil and the black and white. I guess when you are "the best in the world" there's not much need to think about things too deeply or realistically, you're playing into a storyline that much of the world already subscribes to, so why bother thinking about it too much? It's very much a game of divide and conquer when it comes to politics, and there are far too many people white knighting sociopathic politicians as if they were Hollywood stars or American football heroes.

I'll step off the political soapbox to say that I love Vermont very much from a cultural perspective, and it's not a political thing whatsoever. If you like artisan cheeses, the best fucking craft beer being made in this entire country and a place where people are encouraged to let their fellow man express themselves, then Vermont is a good place. There is nowhere else quite like it in the states, as soon as you drive over the border to New Hampshire you have been transported to another world, and in my opinion, for the worse.

Bread and Puppet Theater is just another great thing that happens there and there's no need to apply a specific political lean to whatever it is that they do.

The Sisters remix is my favorite thing of theirs since Geogaddi, aside from maybe Nothing is Real. I hope their current approach translates over to their next album.

Nosdam's new album was also released on VHS, this video is part of that collection I believe. only 50 copies, and they're sold out

It's funny that people are complaining about there only being 50 copies. Perhaps they've forgotten that there aren't really any big companies left duplicating VHS tapes. They probably just hired Adrian Blacow to sit in his studio and duplicate these tapes with two VHS machines connected to each other. Mike and Marcus probably helped by paying Adrian with a part of their spare Rodox Video vhs collection. But 50 vhs tapes takes a while. Give Adrian a break for goodness sake. He has better things to do.

I don't recall complaining at all. I was just answering his question about where the video is from.
