Late to the party but ALAS

I loved loved LOVED this album. Naraka was an instant favorite. And honestly, when Tape 05/Deep time Came on I was SO HAPPY.

I think this might be BOC's beat heaviest album?

The flaming hexagon was different for the last track. It wasn’t spinning anymore. And at the end it dissolved in the flames.

Will be interesting to see how the new gen of fan vids going forward made to Inferno tracks might evolve having taken in the influence of the brilliant 1420 video. Where as ‘super8-esque’ might have been the go-to choice, now more menacing symbology is likely to be employed. I remember Twoism forum member demosphere (forget the name of the software) was creating such things, not saying he was the catalyst but he was certainly ahead of the curve.

A song that evoked Opening the mouth and You could feel the sky.

What might have been my favorite track. I think it is Arena Americanada… just a complete flex of BOC harmony and uplifting energy.

The amazing final two songs that brought tears to my eyes. That footage felt very personal.

So many tracks were full of surprises. Twists and turns and unexpected chord changes. I could not once “predict” how the chord progressions would resolve or evolve. Such a pleasure.

Love this thread (which a description of my experience not a how-to). Haven’t had a bagel in ages, do they do them in progressive states like California or only NYC? Must be a great place to walk around with and without a family (although who doesn’t have a family?). Dow-to-earth is one of my favourite descriptors. I may be late to the game, I’ve only just started producing content but ‘ philosophy and physics and societal collapse’ sounds like a great podcast, I was walking down the street crying yesterday and thought to myself “I can use this”.

That jogged my memory. I tried to follow what he was spelling out but it didn’t seem to form a real word and then he said “marvellous” a few times. I also clearly remember the line “(I love you) more than any other physical being” but that might have been another track. One or both of those must have been during Father and Son.

I don’t trust people trying to tell me what it said, I will use my ears.

Yes, that’s what I heard too! The rhythm of the words were matched with the rhythm of the track somehow.

I’m sure the word “Capricorn” was spoken several times during Age of Capricorn. I found that one a bit too vocal-heavy for my tastes, but that might have just been the speakers and the room. From where I was sitting, the treble was too harsh for my ears, leading to listening fatigue with some tracks.

Anyone reading this should make up their own mind. If the album came with a lyrics sheet it would avoid this. Although misheard lyrics are also revealing and have been a source of inspiration at times, I believe Squarepusher’s Shoba Leader One project exploited this.

London session was great, I didn't want it to end! I was just stoked to be there and hear some new BoC

I'm looking forward to hearing it again on Friday and digging into it.

I tried taking a couple of short video phone recordings of the ambient droning before the playback just for the record, but you can't really make it out very well.

I was surprised reading this because I somehow managed to completely missed these visuals for the second to last track! I didn't notice anything on the ceiling. I ended up being sat on the ground floor level on the side where looking up at the ceiling meant the band logo that appeared during Introit was upside down from my position (I couldn't tell where might have the best view of any visuals when choosing a seat. I was not prepared to have to decide between balcony and ground floor when arriving either lol

) So I'm wondering if those new visuals were projected on the wall behind me during that track or something?

Oh it was an absolute blast! My wife and I flew down to LA from PDX just for the session. Came right back the next day. The whole long weekend has been awesome. Good food, good chewnz! I can't wait to listen to this beast on headphones.

Hi all! I haven't been on the forum in a LONG time but, after meeting with everyone at the NYC session, I felt I had to plug back in.
What an amazingly good time. Feels like dream already.

I was cautiously optimistic (as I am anytime a new record comes out) but I loved it. I love how sample-drenched everything seemed to be. Can't wait to listen on good headphones. Favorite so far is what seemed to be "Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan".

Btw, I mentioned to some of you that I'd made a "Summer of '72" shirt to wear to the session but FedEx lost it

To complicate things further, while I'd love to meet other BoC fans, get the merch, and create a memory, I'm not 100% sure I want my first experience with the first BoC record in 13 years to be standing in a record store with no control over the system or my environment.

It's the weird paradox of being a BoC fan. On some level you crave community (hence places like Twoism), but the music is very much isolationist in nature. It would make just as much sense to be alone in the desert as it would to be at an event with like-minded heads.

I don't know what to do, but I'm predicting my sense of responsibility will win out here. I'll keep enjoying this vicariously through this thread. Keep the stories and reactions and photos coming.

Back on Nov 11, 2011 (11/11/11), Stephen King came into my work for an interview. I had taken the day off for my son's 3rd birthday. Stephen ended up hanging out afterward and talking to my coworkers. I don't regret a thing. Though I would have loved that experience of shooting the shit with the most famous author on the planet, my son only turns 3 once.

I'll be at the Josey Records listening party on Thursday. If they happen to have extra swag I'll grab something for you!

Was at the same session as ya'll. Got there close to 7:30 and was initially dismayed at the line but it was nice to stand out in the pine grove seeing the sun set before heading into the dark. I was near front-left so I feel the sound was a little off/one channel heavy - prophecy felt a bit different then I was used to - so can't wait to hear the full thing again with proper audio.

Lots has already been said but my main surprise was how dense it felt; less of some of the formula of previous albums where there's a lot more melodic interludes and vignettes, this just felt like banger after banger, especially the first 2/3rds. Super exciting, I feel like there were more shades of tracks like XYZ, Chinook, etc. and I'm here for it. Certainly my favorite since Geogaddi.

Loved it. Met some wonderful people. Father and son is my personal favorite so far. Although there are many other delights on the album. Sound could have been better but whatever. Probably also because of the short notice venue change? Wonder whats on that hexi/flexi-disc

Thank you everyone! Especially the peeps who gave me the seat in the front row (lol). My retina was acting up after staring into the red light for so long. Went great with the music.

I was privileged to attend the Glasgow event. My wife, someone yet to be indoctrinated into the BOC way, joined me. Someone "may" have said that Glasgow has shops.

Early start from Belfast, first flight of the day for this airline and immediately met with a delay. Never a great start. Half expected a cancellation tbh.

Made use of the time to thrash an overpriced breakfast into myself and stay cool.

Got to Glasgow later than expected but still around lunchtime and the hotel were kind enough to let us into our room early. Instant midday "nana nap" . Best nap.

Woke to grab a bite of late lunch and was met with THE email. Not great as I had high hopes for the experience at the chapel and I was a bit bummed out about that if I am being honest. We had chosen central Glasgow for the hotel so unlike unfortunate others who chose to stay close to the chapel, the new location was actually closer. But I had, lets say, low expectations of the venue.

Arrived at around 8:10 to the The Vic after being driven up the steepest hill know to all mankind. I don't know how many clutches we heard, smelled and tasted getting scorched as we queued.

It was a very students union.

I had come prepared for a non-alcohol venue ( as Warp had advised ) and had armed myself in Tesco with some tins of Bourbon and coke. Quickly drained one as soon as I bought it ( when in Glasgow etc ) and a couple in the taxi on the way. Upon realizing it was a fuly quipped SU and seeing plastic-cupped-pints, I chinned the other 2 in the queue. I for sure under-estimated the kick of those tins tbh.

This perhaps fuelled my poor/heroic decision to source a cup of tea for my wife who was cold and to be fair, had jumped through very many hoops to accompany me. Hero mode engaged, I tumbled down Ridiculous Hill (tm) and attacked a number of establishments on the main road trying to get just a cup of tea. No dice until I landed in an ice cream parlour where they scrambled about to gather me all of the components required to produce a tea. Yes, a "deconstructed" tea. After about 7 severe cardiac events, I clambered back up the hill to the queue and proceeded to "assemble" said tea. Wild.

We were perhaps, 15-20th in the queue so got fully merched thankfully ( we sat in front of some folk who I overheard didn't get certain bits and yeah, made me realize that little things matter to me. Or that I care about material things too much! Felt bad for them mind you ). I was flummoxed when I arrived at the door ( remember quick intake of 5 or so Jack Daniels/Coke tins and said tea event ) and couldnt find my tickets in my mailbox. Guy on the door was lovely though and nattered away to my wife while I flailed at my phone. Apologies to anyone behind who I delayed or indeed, had to watch the old man.

Obviously, I purchased the token for the tape ( bourbon judgement )

We proceeded upstairs to the assembly hall and I guess, for me, this is when it all turned around.

Dark. Dank. With seriously ominous sounds. CRT televisions!!

From what I gather and I could be wildly wrong, most if not all of the sessions had BIG displays. Perhaps Glasgow would have been the same if it had stayed in its original venue, but this change, whether it was by design or not, hit home for me with huge nods to "THAT" ATP gig we have all seen pictures of. Yes, probably just the inclusion of 4 or 5 CRT televisions as visuals and yes, I am probably reading way too much into this, but it couldn't have been any more BOC. To me anyway.

Being a students union, I was also happy to avail of the bar and a couple more burbs'n'coke had me well oiled for the following 70 minutes.

What can I say. Such a wonderful 70 minutes. And to turn round at any stage and see everyone equally lost in that moment was captivating.

My final measure was that of my wife. When the hexagon extinguished and the lights came on, she looked at me and said, just......"wow".

Privileged.

It was quite an interesting track actually, it was subtly changing all the way through.

You know there's been that post recently about Shepard tones? Well it wasn't one of those but it was definitely doing something that made it difficult to put your finger on exactly what it was doing, if it was looping and where, and exactly what noise it was making
