Eh, they kinda already did space theme with Inferno, and also TCFHP. I feel like it would be a bit too much of an obvious nod at this point.

Feels like that's more just one track from each album mostly. Something that goes into UFO cults, alien obsession, belief in immortality through science and sci fi and so forth.

It really sounds like just an operation to rake in tons of emails to send newsletters, it would be aligned with the overall feeling of "milking the cash cow" that this release has felt compared from previous ones from BoC.

If they really wanna ""milk the cash cow"" then they should restock the tshirts on bleep. Some of them are only available in extreme sizes now. And those weren't even purportedly limited afaik like the cassette etc

Yes, I totally get you here. I'd love them to go full astral projection into the cosmos. Re-direct their energy from syncopation to harmony, less drums, more ambience, more orchestral arrangements like Deep Time, complex sonic lusciousness. I love BOC when they go ambient. Sundown and Deep Time are two of my favourite tracks by them.

The human psyche is an infinite source of inspiration, really, or they could go full meta and do an alsum that circles through their own discography themeline, tho I feel rethreading is not in their genes.

For the love of god, please no space album. No. No! Next, why not Disco? Yeah, the next boards of canada music should be a 70s, space disco album. It should sound exactly like... this!

I think you need to understand the difference between a style and a theme. Disco is a style.

Inferno has shown me that no amount of waiting can ever prepare me for the magnitude of a fresh BOC drop, so they might just as well release LP6 next week.

The inferno era EP being called "Hell's Interface" would be a great nod, not gonna lie

I sometimes wonder if we are at the start of a long wait or at the beginning of the series. I just really don't feel the ending hits that hard if it was them signing off for a very long time like before. I just don't get the sense of an "ending" to boards of canada. But then again it is debatable and a personal perspective on what that would look like. I just personally feel that they have more to talk about and have missed a couple of things out.

I like the colour theory which ties all the boards of canada albums together. If the next album is green coloured, then our theory will be correct. My speculative theory right now is the next album is going to be very campfire headphase vibes.

Maybe the space album will be purple coloured....

Also, its very explicit Mike was behind the direction of this record. So, what the heck was Marcus doing instead of this? More to add to the theory the next boards of canada release won't be a long wait. Think Half Life 2 with its episodes...

Listening to Inferno for the 1000th time this morning and was wondering if this thread was ever created. I haven't really looked at the forum since release because we went from a desert of information to a full on tsunami and it was all a bit overwhelming...absolutely love this thread was created so soon after release though, lol.

Personally I do not think this is an end for BoC. Since we're speculating here, there are a few thoughts I have:

1. Are we in for a quick turnaround because Marcus wasn't *seemingly* as heavily involved for Inferno? So do we have a Mike/Hell and Marcus/Heaven situation? I'm not going to speculate on their relationship, etc...but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to have some sort of yin-yang album release, particularly after 13 years between major releases. Maybe the Marcus-heavy release isn't for another year or two, maybe it's an EP of work that just didn't fit the Inferno theme...but I can't shake we're in for a rebound release of some sort.

2. BoC set is always out there. Feels kind of like low hanging fruit in a speculation thread, but it just can't be ignored.

3. Speaking of ages, and this one is heavy on the speculation: what if their purported back catalog (or even their castaway tracks from the last 13 years until Inferno) are some sort of retirement/inheritance setup for their families? Like a family nest egg sort of thing...not from a purely capitalistic perspective, but to just ensure their kids will be set for life from this work, maybe even get them involved or something? Again, not really wanting to speculate too much on the personal side of things or how their families work, but I would, personally, love to have something like that for my kids if I had talent in something I could do this in, ya know? Like "do not release this until we're gone" situation?

4. That damn flexi-hexi...AND they're both credited on that track...could be a "hey this is a cool add-on" or could be "it's a sample for what's to come". Only time will really tell, but I suspect it's more the later and that would make me very happy.

5. Their website: still has the email sign up for updates. WHAT AM I GOING TO BE UPDATED ON?!?! Also website related, I tried for shits and giggles to do things like "boardsocanada.com/listen" /bocset and a few others and they all reverted back to the main landing page. Probably a nothing burger, but it would be quite intriguing to find a hidden site behind the main landing page.

My brain hurts from the tinfoil...
