It's been a succes once again There is more than 2 hours of music (incl fillers) submitted so it'll be tough to not disappoint some.

I've got some great short intro songs. And an "upbeat" song which I ended by remixing Iced Cooley. It's track length is 4:56.... Well I'm ready for whenever you wanna start vol. 3.

Well, this one isn't really comparable with volume 1. All tracks on vol.1 were contributed as mp3, most of them as 192kbps but also a lot at 128kbps. After the mixing process all files were re-encoded to 256kbps and 192kbps. Given that all sources were <256kbps there is no need to make it higher. There is a lossless version but in theory this version isn't really lossless.

With this compilation 95% is lossless. The files that are being mixed/compiled are in lossless format so there is no loss in data/audio when the mix is done. There will probably be a 192vbr version and a lossless version which can be re-encoded to any bitrate one thinks will suit.

thanks Ae. i'm moaning about the 1st mix as it was free, and a trip to listen to, i just wished that the sound quality was a bit higher on it, that was all. i think mp3 format has maybe ruined the way we listen to music, and the way the younger generation perceives it, as a discardable, bio-degradable commonaty. but then, maybe this topic would be better suited in a thread in random sound?

Yeah, you probably should make a topic about that in TRS. Mind that this has been discussed before.

I've being laughed at on this board many times because I always want the highest possible quality (bitrate or lossless). I totally agree with you about the bitrate on OoT1. It was a bit frustrating to handle tracks which were different in quality. Mind that the compilation was setup by steve-o and that it was just a compilation of musicians from the Twoism community. No one expected such quality compositions, which gives it the duality you are talking about.
After a while steve-o asked for some who wanted to take it over because he was too busy. Because my name was already mentioned for the mixing and compiling I took over the compilation together with The Other. I personally think that this, together with the variety in quality and 'the lack' of guidelines gives OoT1 a certain attraction. It was something that fit very well together without any appointments/guidelines.

That's why I baptized OoT1 as a solid oneness

So to get back at to you about your question. No, I don't think it ruined the way we perceive music, it changed it and opened up a completly new branch of musicians.

if my track happened to make it on there... it will be the 5% that was submitted as MP3. the original is still stuck on my unaccessible external HD...

The perfect sound quality doesn't have anything to do with the medium it's recorded on hills.

But that's another discussion let's keep it on topic.
