I wonder how far in advance my local indie would know if they're getting this version. That Sick Times fakie is starting to grow on me. Can't say the same for that other fake posted a few pages back that sounds like popcorn + dental work.

So excited for this to be released. Just got the AKG 240 MKII in the mail today in preparation for the big day. Just a few days of pink noise and they'll be primed for the new album.

Someone explain to me what is so great about the Sick Times track. Whether fake or what have you, it is literally just noise - there is absolutely no substance. Is this that drone stuff people talk up all the time?

"fake sick times" isn't great but it isn't really terrible either. it's just a bit lazy. and i'd caution you against dismissing all drone music based on a few poor examples. like all genres of music there's a small percentage that's worthwhile and a whole lot that's generic and forgetable. this track definitely falls into the latter category, though i do admit it could work in a film soundtrack or something. but there's a lot of well-crafted drone stuff that can be deeply affecting, like stars of the lid's "requiem for dying mothers" ( http://youtu.be/uQ7CU9QIHAA ) - if you aren't moved by that then you have a heart made of stone.

a lot of drone music has its roots (conceptually at least) in some very old traditions, especially the tambura instrument in indian music. there's a lot of fascinating notions of trascendence through endurance & meditation in some eastern music that *a little* contemporary drone music can tap into. but again, a lot of it is just fucking lazy.

oh and if you think fake sick times is "just noise" then i'd be interested to see what you think of *actual* noise music like merzbow or nurse with wound.

Solid choice....these are the headphones I use. The mids sound amazing and it has a good bass as well. I'm not sure how good they will sound with a few days of pink noise but after almost a year of use mine sound amazing and they seem to keep getting better with time. They work great with BoC and I also listen to a lot of metal with them and the distortion sounds very very good.
