The creation date is kind of a smoking gun IMO. But the real confirmation will be if it stays up after getting all this attention. BoC have always been quick to shut down impersonators.

From what I saw with The Wayback Machine, I assumed the hellinterface.com link was legit - it had been a placeholder for their official sites for years until going all black (literally) after the cosecha-transmisiones site went offline - great to have some more "official" designation now, though!

The FB page is definitely...different. It would be quite the long-con for it not to be official, though.

Stylistically, a lot of the older stuff (at least what we've heard) is all over the place, and we know how much they take pride in ensuring the Boards of Canada albums and EPs are musically cohesive and thematically concentrated. Putting it out under HI would give them more freedom to compile this material any way they choose without impacting their legacy.

And for the record, I don't mean to be negative in the slightest. In fact, Old Tunes Vol 1 is probably my favourite thing they've ever done. I'm merely approaching this situation from a branding/marketing angle ;)
Interesting speculation!

I've thought the same with the BOC catalog and how perfectly formed it is. Hell Interface could finally be their excuse to let their hair down and release their shoegaze experiments (maybe the full track of Wouldn't You Like To Be Free) r&b remixes and other oddities that don't fit under the BOC name.

They've said themselves a lot of the music they record doesn't fit stylistically with the BOC brand name.

I tend to agree, especially on the dates. Can't be coincidence.

August 23rd 2011:
  • Hell Interface Page creation date
  • Unlisted video Nuevas Semillas got updated on Hell Interface Youtube channel
April 22nd 2013:
  • Nuevas Semillas got, nearly 2 years later, publicly released during TH's marketing campaign.
So I can say the website is legit, and presumably the Hell Interface Facebook page was at the very least legit in 2011 and 2013, and unless it has been hacked recently it still is a legit page.

Also, I'm actually more convinced it's real by the fact that it's not analog synths and old blurry home video, i.e. the same sort of stuff BoC fakers always do. They've always made it clear they resist falling into tropes and self-parody... Posting something weird and unexpected like that seems very much in character.

Not to mention, as we were discussing on one of the Discord servers... BoC seem to recently be exploring the territory of reality vs unreality in media. SxT was 2 hours of unlabeled music, a lot of which was very hard to discern from BoC and had everyone debating what was and wasn't them; this idea was directly stated by CoL in This Flat Earth: "I'm living in the time when peoples'words don't mean a thing."

Following that we've been having posts on both official social media and unverified but connected accounts, some with very small numbers of followers, causing people to debate whether the accounts are legit, and now they're posting a deepfake video which again is all about making something unreal appear real... They're even referencing one of their own fakers with the Whitney Houston image.

Maybe I'm grasping at straws here but there does seem to be a recurring theme. And it falls in the domain of Hell Interface, which has always been about twisting pop culture into a weird mirror universe version of itself.

Kinda surprise the website was only renewed for another year - this past December.

You would think a website you’ve had since 2002 you would renew for several years at a time, right?

Why renew each and every year?

TBH, that seems more like a BOC type topic than the whole "humanity escaping to outer space" haha I'm simply curious how that would all sound musically?

Perhaps like I said, the music released under HI will be such a digression from the usual BOC that we'll be guessing if it's actually them.

This is all putting a huge grin on my face. They're always subverting expectations, and always making people second guess. I really like this sort of playfulness we're getting from the Hell Interface FB account. It's a sort of teenage immaturity and fun that hasn't really been explored or heard since the old tunes tapes.

Any ideas for the Whitney Houston image?

My only guess is they might be referencing that fake BoC Whitney Houston remix that surfaced years ago.. The title could sort of align with it being a troll or whatever lol.. "How Will I Know", and they made her look like a demon.

As exciting as these stirrings are, it's hard to get my hopes up all that much after so many false happenings. There was a recent hack of Facebook that released personal information of half a billion users. Whose to say this page wasn't somehow a part of it? Either way, the content is amateurish and uses references we know to be hoaxes that it seems a stretch to think BoC is behind it, even if the page itself may be genuine. Until there's more compelling evidence that they have something to do with it, I remain skeptical.

Dunno if this has been said, but that Adult Swim post from a few months ago has the caption “feeling bad can feel good”.
