Fair enough, that Stars of the Lid track is affecting.

Oh yeah, and I listened to Merzbow and what the fuck. And I dig ambient music, but it takes a whole lot of volume switches and textures to get me into it. Helps if the tempo is a bit more active.

What do I call it? Brain rape? Aural torture? You can't seriously expect anyone who dismisses ambient music to be able to stomach the screeching.
you're right, i don't seriously expect that. i don't enjoy merzbow. i just referenced him as an example of the noise genre.

well - it's not so much the track itself (which, as i said before, isn't terrible) as the near-daily posts (here and elsewhere) of "hey guys have you heard this? i think it sounds legit." etc etc. and i don't want to criticize other people's naïvety, cause that's a bit arrogant, but - have BoC ever released anything that was just one chord held for several minutes? furthermore does it seem likely that they'd release something that sounds like it was written, performed, recorded and mastered in a single day after a seven year gap, especially something that has no discernable trademarks of their style whatsoever? *that's* what's annoying for me, though i suppose if i didn't want to be annoyed i wouldn't go on the internet at all . . .

I've seen cockroaches hooked up neurally to wave processors and it sounded like that.

I know I get panned a LOT by people for digging things like Blut aus Nord, Lustmord, or Thee Maldoror Kollective, but that Merzbow stuff I could do in my basement with screamtracker and about 1 minute of non-effort. Mega-yawn plus it's annoying as a horde of poodles on acid

I thought it was 24:00? Meaning midnight, not noon?

I think it's fair to say noise, especially harsh noise, is not for everyone, but I don't think there's a snowballs chance in hell that boc are gonna put out a noise record so no worries. And I like some of merzbow's stuff a lot but realize it's futile to try and get someone into him if they don't have the inclination.

But if you were curious about noise, I'd recommend nurse with wound. I think folks might have an easier time "getting" that. Or maybe not.

I don't think that fake sick times track is great by any means but it doesn't offend me and i find it vaguely pleasant if lazy, but mostly I associate it with the amusement of a bunch of people coming to ask if it's real.
All of old. Nothing else ever. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

I didn't even see that. I meant our world. The whole album says eco-apocalypse not apocalypse to me so that isn't any stretch at all.
