Welp
I didn't know about the Warp10 thing. Is there a post about that somewhere?

I don't buy it. Especially Track 07. This very much sounds to me like someone skillfully recreated samples to match the elements we hear in the song and then slapped them together. I don't hear any of the magic that comes with listening to a properly blended and mixed BoC tune. I remember people beginning attempts at this and other tracks like Spiro several years back. What replicated samples I had heard were made pretty accurately.

Track 01 and Track 03 are a matter of tuning the right synth patch on the right equipment and then matching notes, tempo and FX of the original. No tricky mixing needed.

I think this is a well done, skilled recreation from someone who still has room for improving their mixing. In their defence, the task was extra difficult as the nuances of the mix are harder to catch from a live recording. But you can hear a lot of imperfections throughout that definitely wouldn't pass as mixed by BoC. Again, I'm referring to Track 07. Hearing the cutoff of some samples, not as an effect, but as a mistake. The sound of the synth in the second half that was so booming it resonated in the live recording and ends up being flat and lifeless in this mix. What's more, THE LEAD SYNTH IN THE FIRST HALF IS MISSING NOTES!! For the love of god. These are not real.

Whoever did this. Thank you for Track 01 and Track 03. They are beautiful recreations. But, shame on you for Track 07 and for lying about their origin. Please keep doing this work and keep improving. We would all love good replications of tracks we otherwise can't get. No need to lie about the origin. Say "I created these replications." and we will all give you high-fives.

hmm

747 what raised an eyebrow for me was not choosing the Sunshine Recorder as a share because it has that TW sample which would be very difficult to replicate. I really haven't compared track 1 to the only legit clean release of it which is just a bit on the ATP doc yet. Also the bass drum on the disco part of 7 sounds the most legit production like to me, who knows what it actually sounds like with all that amplification and space noise. MDG where are you please advise

Chordplayer77 shared tracks that weren't coming up when he Shazam'd them. Hence why 'Sunshine Recorder' was not shared

Not in a place where I can listen to the two side by side but I'm trying to think how complicated a BoC live soundboard would be and if any of the discrepancies might come from where in the chain you put the recorder. Certainly any effects caused by how the sound reacts with the room making things more booming wouldn't be there.

What I mean is I'm usually Team Fake on a lot of this but I don't know if I'd say this is based on what I heard

I still don’t think they’re replications. It sounds imperfect and poorly mixed because it was performed live. They didn’t just press play on a prerecorded set. They played keys, triggered samples, etc. right there and then, with no chance to redo any mistakes. It’s also not mastered like a studio recording would be so it sounds weird in any other context than the room they were in at the time on the speakers they were using at the time.

Yes, thats exactly how the music sounds before you apply the mastering.

Asking the community here if Warp10 tracks (not ATP) have been leaked in the same fashion. Thanks.

it's not a properly blended and mixed BoC tune. it's a demo that they showcased once to a small audience. the only reason why we have this is probably because they used the soundboard feed as a showcase for what they were currently working on (geogaddi), for friends/fellow musicians/label execs etc

it was never meant to be heard like this(by us). it was mixed and performed for a live setting, not for home listening. it's not even professionally mastered. that's why it doesn't sound like a proper BoC record. it's a workprint.

also to add on to this - i believe all the unreleased tracks showcased in the ATP-WARP lighthouse-WARP10 sets are part of the '90 track' soup that they pared down to just ~23 (counting from one source, not magic windy) for geogaddi's official release

The only travesty is that we don't have all of the set.

It's 100% real. Can't believe we're still debating this.

My father is a retired mastering engineer (Brian “Big Bass” Gardner), and I’ll ask him to give it a whirl mastering these soundboard tracks. He actually mastered the BOC “Broken Drum” remix, and is a fan. Hopefully he can get to it soon.

Indeed! To say I was steeped in music growing up is a mighty huge understatement.

I agree. I remember him saying the mix he was sent was fantastic sounding right outta the bag. Of course.

Mastering is a kind of dark magic. I've put together a few compilations over the years and it's weird how what can sound like a pretty disparate collection of tracks suddenly has a kind of unifying glue when they've been properly mastered.

I really hope we get to hear the rest of these tracks someday.

It really is a strange thing, but hearing a good mastering job is amazing.

Hoping for the entire soundboard as well. Should be officially released!

I used to work as an in-house engineer in a residential recording studio in England. And so while I engineered many tracks I never got to master any, always found it fascinating how much mastering could elevate a track further, when you thought you couldn't possibly better it in the mix. Definitely a dark art when done correctly. Occasionally it would ruin the dynamics but not often.
