I'm digging it alright, but it's not as good as Ambivalence Avenue. Lots of pretty good songs, with no stand-outs. I have no problem with "Take Off Your Shirt." But the album doesn't have anything on the level of "Haikuesque (When She Laughs)." Then again, that's just my opinion up to this point.

This thread actualy got me started on a bibio binge recently, Vignetting the Compost is surely my favourite so far.

Vertical Helican Stan is an amazing track, it reminds me of the Poppy Seed Reprise alot. I wish an artist would make an album with a general sound just like that.

Just got tickets for Bibio live at the Garage (London) on Friday 27th. It's billed as an "electronic set", which I guess will be laptop and vocals maybe with keyboard as well. Has anyone ever seen Bibio live, how was he?

Might have been mentioned before, but I just heard the Excuses breakdown on an Adult Swim bump.

Just listening to this now-- awesome I really like it but I think I like Ambivalence Avenue better, nevertheless it's a great addition to his discog.

Not too bad. I like his non pop sounds a lot more. Excuses, Pretentious and Feminine Eye .. legendary tunes

I gave the album a full listen again on my commute this morning. I've really laid off it for 3 months since it first came out. I went back and fully enjoyed his earlier work quite a bit and then came back to it just today.

On second round I have to say what is standing in the way of this being a great album for me is his lyricism. I generally enjoy it when he sings especially when it isn't through the vocoder though it works wonderfully on Take off Your Skirt (which should have been on the album instead of the standard version imo) but his lyric lines on this album get in the way of some great music. I know not all the songs could stand without singing but just listen to More Excuses and think about how it would sound if you stripped out the vocals. It would be a better song.

This really is his most complex, sophisticated work. Some of the guitar and synth lines are really wonderful. But where Ambivalence has Haikuesque and Palm of Your Wave which have some haunting emotionality for me none of his vocals have that for me on this album, not even in the up beat happy sense. That is what stands in the way of this being a fantastic album versus a good.

What a grower this album has been...

After months of sitting on my iPod and having a handful of listens that didn't 'get through' to me, the other day I got sucked in..

Mind Bokeh is a beautiful work. I urge anyone with an initial bad reception of this to have another listen; maybe it just took a season change or something. Mind Bokeh makes sense to me - I imagine it's going to be a long-time love ^_^

whoever said he's trying too hard on this album, I agree.
It's obvious he's trying to do too many things at once.
This album might have been a grower for some people, but this has been a "get worse the more I listen to it" type of album.
it's still good, but not as much as I probably childishly proclaimed a few pages back.

i see my favorite local record shop just got this in on vinyl.

No. I would spend my hard earned money on his early stuff (vinyl ofcourse).

I'd say yes, definitely! I've listened to it a lot on vinyl and I think the retro-stile on this album is perfect for the Lp-player. Go for it!

But of course, his early stuff would also be nice to have on vinyl...or...all great albums for that matter..
