Well tbh considering how fucked up the world is right now I don't think my heart could take a hopeless album, so I really appreciate they're throwing some light at us.

It's got nearly 200k views in less than a day. That's pretty good I think? The "Tomorrow's Harvest Transmission" has 378k views and it probably mostly raked them in when it was new, so maybe this is just expected.

Imagine if BoC went mainstream with this album though, the TikTok generation might actually be weird enough to catch on. The next stage of our evolution. Everyone just becomes mellow and ethereal

I think we're in for something good. They've always seemed to have a keen eye and a finger on the pulse of the world for the human condition. Remember the interviews in the wake of Campfire Headphase, how foregrounded the permanent paranoia and apocalyptic atomsphere of a post 9/11 world shaped the record into a sort of time sanctuary. We're in even more distorted fascistic times now than we were then, so whatever reflection they give us at this point will be all the more enriching

I'm all here for it, hearing QKThr everywhere is kind of funny, and if it introduces people to Aphex Twin and makes them delve into their discography I guess it's a plus. When my girlfriend scrolls through reels I'll sometimes hear some actual bangers.

Though I do feel like over the years BoC have sort of gained a more mainstream appeal.

I know right! Can't wait to hear this reflected on in their music. Part of the reason why I loved TH

Omg! Welcome back everyone :D I was waiting for a new album for soo long. This song feels... we are coming OUT of dark times and entering some sort of faith. Very cultish, very boc, I'm very happy :D

Yeah I don't know if I'm the first to say so or not but, if the vibe this time is euphoric devotion of the whole human spirit to an unshakable unreasonable singular grail I'm in, I'm here for the Cult Era, let's get zealous up in here

I see BoC have loved this comment on the video.
my brother sagan passed away in 2021 and it feels so wrong that he isn’t here listening to this with the rest of us. he would have been 24 this year. he loved analog synthesizers and misspelled words and gaudy 80’s clothes and his laugh sounded like a honking goose. BoC was probably the band that meant the absolute most to him in this world and had the most impact on his own journey with making music. i’m playing this extra loud in the car this morning and pretending that he’s sitting shotgun

fuck, that's heavy. I pray he's hearing it loud and clear and where he's hearing it is beautiful

Loving this, I am so curious what we"ll be getting. Some Nothing Is Real meets Whitewater vibes at the end too. Its a little more subtle than I had hoped new material would be, and I"m slightly bothered by some letterboxing in the video (like 1:24), but the song is both more hopeful and more melancholic than what came before, like it has a little story arc there from very desolate/despair at the start to more hopeful/constructive/creative, and I'm all about that tension/release, baby.

There's a lot of BoC fans who never made it to hear this. RIP to them all and lovely for it to be acknowledged.

Having slept well the night after this dropped, reading over all of the similarities to earlier work folks have heard in this piece (B01 and A01 from 35 Tracks Tape, Buckie High's chord progression from Old Tunes, and I'd also add Whitewater from BOC Maxima), it occurred to me just how masterfully they've distilled their sound and pushed it to transcendent heights in Tape 05. It resonates as quintessentially BOC--different layers of the composition and sound design pulling on different motifs from across their discography--while sounding new.

I've been in a funk this year. It'd been such a weird, hard year in various ways. I feel like this shook something loose in me in a good way, like it unblocked something inside. Magic. I haven't cried to a piece of music in a while. Healing!!

Maybe they liked it cuz it was his brother and the BoC bros are brothers. Not all brothers have strong bonds but when they do… what we heard in the video is a musical representation of what happens

I can't stop listening to this. It's so good.

The audio and imagery link around 1.42 and then again at 2.16 is spellbinding. Wizards.

I'm fairly sure it's a koto, not a harp.

the chord sequence I get:

D major - III - first inversion (D/F#/A)
F# minor - V third inversion (ie lower the D to a C#/F#/A)
E major - IV third inversion (B/E/G#)
B major - I first inversion (B/D#/F#)

My fourth watch hit like a ton of bricks, the vid is just so perfect I hope we’ll have credits on who made it. The moment the hexagon appears is absolute cinema.
And the track… they truly are masters at conveying complex and deep moods in their music. Love how non-Manichean it is. The beauty in the darkness.

Can’t wait to see what the album will be about. Seems like family and parenthood could be strong themes. Posters of children, nuclear family tshirts, kids with guns in vid, …
