Sorry if this is already somewhere in the thread - I tried to search for it and didn't see it. An extension of a piece I'm fairly certain I've previously read by Simon Reynolds now includes Inferno. Quite short but hits on some of key areas: it's "taut" sound, its pressing into topical political messaging territory. There are phrases in it that were part of the pre-release publicity - (my quotes are paraphrased): "the esoteric influences shared in SocietasX Tape", "expanded role for spoken sound-bites"... Thanks so much for sharing this. Music journalism doesn't come much higher than Simon Reynolds. Someone should send this to Fantano and that prat at The Guardian...

^I should add, now that I've actually fully read the whole piece, I'm pretty sure I was wrong about the first half being familiar or previously published. I had just skimmed it looking for Inferno references.

Reynolds really is the gold standard of music writing. I wish I'd read this before I spoke to him (signing event for his new book "Still In A Dream") on Monday. Would have loved to discuss it with him. We talked about Husker Du and MBV instead.
