With me BoC is one of those bands that have such a specific sound I need to be in the mood for their music. When I am it's absolutely amazing but I can't pretend to love something and not find flaws in it.

I still can't figure out why Iced Cooly annoys me to no end.

I kinda understand people's irritation with Dayvan Cowboy, but I think the problem is that it sticks out on TCH because it is amongst a bunch of great moody very-BOC songs. I had it as the first track on a BOC compilation I made for the bookshop and it sounded amazing like that, almost like an epic opening theme to a film.

Of the officially released stuff there's maybe a couple of things off Twoism and MHTRTC that I'm not wild about. I really love bits of Chinook but as a whole it doesn't have enough going on to hold my interest. Can't say I hate it though.

you like songs based on what emotion you're in at the moment. Luckily Boards has covered nearly every emotion in our human spectrum. To me it doesn't really make sense to "hate" a particular song.

(although I'm not much of a fan of Chinook, I feel it is really good for a background feel sort of vibe. I use it when I'm reading or something. and I guess that's an emotion.)

There isn't one song that I don't like, however, even though Magic Window is brilliant, I find myself rarely listening to it. Just kidding.

I actually love Magic Window.... If you're listening to your ipod and you have it set to shuffle on the entire BoC collection, the Magic Window is just that, a Magic Window. Sometimes I forget about it and think my ipod stopped or I think it's the tale end of another song that is too quiet to hear from across the room.... but then the silence goes on just long enough, the next song comes on and I remember. I then realize that I was just a part of the experience, yet again. If that makes any sense.

I can understand why many may find Chinook on a lower tier for BoC.... but for me, it's all a part of the big picture and I don't skip around too much. It's hard enough to pick favorites, but I don't think my brain is geared towards picking least favorites, let alone the worst. They just don't exist for me. -LXN

yeah, i'm always amazed at how i'll find myself loving something i once loathed

i've always loved rue the whirl's DJ/turntable/hip hop vibe and the subliminal bird calls in the background of the song. also the ending interlude is incredibly epic in scope -- one of the peaks of their discography. it then fades into aquarius

Back in High School I had to do a talent for some big dumb assembly so I played Iced Cooly and rolled around the stage wearing a cape.

Totally agree with you about the end to that song. Probably one of the better moments on that album for me. I just the love the odd little melody that is going on, it's almost like it's broken but still works. The last 20 seconds or so are great too.

funny i used to skip that one all the times back in 2002 but it's now one of my favorite BoC tracks along a few others, funny how things changes with time though... I think the Gyroscope is indeed timeless so to say, the beat is from mars really...

I love every BoC song, but one that i felt went on a little too long was telephasic workshop. It didn't really get interesting until when the vocals kicked in around 3:40

I hate the guitar riff in Dayvan Cowboy; I think it is way too full of cheese for BoC. Though, I do like the later section, when the cymbals practically eat the guitar.

I understand what BoC was trying to accomplish with this track as well: they wanted it to break into the mainstream, which is probably why their was a [sick] video that tagged along with it. I truly understand that too (most musicians want this actually, but not all of them want to necessarily stay in the stream) - but it is so out of place on the album.

Surprised to see so much hate for Zoetrope! it was the first BoC track I ever heard, five years ago (on a shoegaze compilation oddly enough) and it's still one of my very favorites. It's simplicity is exactly what makes it beautiful to me.

as for my own least favorite, I'm not terribly fond of Iced Cooly or Rue The Whirl. I feel like RTW is the sole weak link in MHTRTC.

Exactly. Zoetrope's beautiful.

Rue The Whirl. As it featured in Spaced I've a kinda soft spot for it. But it doesn't really get going, just meanders along until it completely runs out of steam.

See, I think Rue the Whirl is an excellent and subtle tune, and cannot understand any hate thrown its way.

I think Smokes Quantity is a track I would skip as it physically bothers me, but Zoetrope I could listen to at least.

For me it's that coming in the tracklist where it does, between Roygbiv and Aquarius, and being how it is (quite slow and repetitive) it totally takes out the momentum.

It's not that I think it's a bad track, it's just that MHTRTC is a long record, and Rue The Whirl is the only time I notice that.
