No problem with stem cell research etc. Although I can see it now: Organ licencing. Lease your new heart from Microsoft, upgrade your lungs every four years incase they stop supporting your current version. Best of all Apple release iOrgans. iHeart, iSpleen and...yes...the iEye.
I thank yow.

Our bodies aren't what we are as people - it was mentioned about Christopher Hitchens feeling that his body was failing him although his mind was sound - I'm sure anyone who's been permanently physically disabled by an accident/disease can relate to that - although I'm healthy, I can identify to a certain extent, my body sometimes just feels like the vessel that contains the mind, the soul, the person.
I'm not sure how accurate the thing is about our cells regenerating - if it's true, then we literally aren't in the same body as we were. What really terrifies me is the loss of my mind. My body will be of no use to me when I'm gone, it will just be dead cells, so I can't see why someone else shouldn't make use of it, although if you leave it to medical science, you can probably expect bits of it to end up down the pub on a medical student night out, from stories I've heard...
What I don't agree with, however, is organ donation being the default, to be opted out of. I'll have no part of the state presuming ownership of my body when I die.

im on the organ donor register here in the uk but there are two things ive not offered to donate - tissues and eyes. it makes me feel terribly selfish, and i want to change my details to include them, but something freaks me out about someone else having my eyes particularly.
its weird, im more than willing to donate things i couldnt live without but i think its because i cant see them..
i dont know, anyone got any similar or different perspectives on this? help me change my mind!!
try thinking about it from the other perspective. should you have an accident in which you could use donor eyes [heaven forbid]....wouldnt you like to have them?
