i love listening to BoC sober. I also love listening to BoC whilst trying to figure out whether my teeth have in fact melted or discussing jibberish with my house plant. Both equally as enjoyable.

I'm only 20 years old. I started listening to BoC when I was 13. I started becoming completely obsessed and involved in their music when I was 15. I never used any kind of drug till I was 17.

I enjoy the sounds of BOC sober at home or on the way to work... and also high as a kite with my friends on a remote hill star gazing

to be honest, i find that listening to boc while sober can actually induce a semi-stoned state whether its tied to the nostalgia and i get a "high" from memories of days past or if the music itself causes the brain to trigger the release of dopamine. either way i can listen to boc in any state and get different types of enjoyment from the songs
that being said, im a daily smoker and boc goes hand in hand with a good buzz. also ive tripped on shrooms, acid and dmt and boc is the perfect soundtrack to those trips.
however you want to listen to music is your choice and yours alone but dont look down on others for enjoying something a bit different than how you enjoy it.

Not trying to be rude here in any way, but this is an
extremely narrow and frankly very condescending way to look at drug use. Please understand that it's not just a fine line between using something from time to time and being an addict.
With that in mind, I should also point out that your body creates a whole bunch of different chemical experiences akin to drug use: dreaming is a very psychedelic-esque experience. Endorphins are very opiate-like.
I'm not telling you to do drugs or anything, and I respect your decision to refrain from using them, but whenever I see this "pure" shit I want to punch a hole in the wall. It is very likely that you partake in caffeine usage like the majority of the world. Need I call that impure? Or is it just the substances that the government have decided for you are not okay? What discerns the two enough to the extent where you can just dismiss all controlled substances as being impure and likely to enslave the user?
I completely agree. Some people seem paranoid of new experiences. Feeling or seeing things from a different perspective should not be viewed as enslavement or wrong. We are all addicted to something. Whether that be caffeine, sugar, sex, tv or the Internet. Some of you may even be addicted to this very site. We are only human. There's no shame in experiencing what this incredible world, universe and life has to offer.

Does anyone here actually have any drugs?
TapteTapeTao makes some very good points. Just like anyone else, I can like enjoy music without substances and have had some really profound experiences with a pair of headphones in the middle of the night.
But I'll smoke weed until the day I die, and weed enhances boards like a younger version of myself might not have thought possible. As one user above said, you gain greater appreciation for the intricacies of their production and the images they convey through music (although this could vary from person to person).
but its everyone's right to decide what they put into their body, no one is the bigger boc fan..

I don't care about drugs, never have, never will use them. Life's magical enough without it, to each it's own but I am also not very tolerant to humans in general, I don't want to enhance that.

Boards Of Canada on acid is one of the greatest things I've ever experienced.
It's really goosebump-inducing sober as well, but drugs just add that extra something that lets you feel the music a bit more.
weed as well, getting super stoned and chilling somewhere at night with Echus in your head is beautiful.

I've never touched drugs outside of prescribed pharmaceuticals (which, the "worst" being T3's LOL) - however - I do like my drink,

.
I have no real plans to try "drugs" - but I certainly don't hold it against anyone for taking them either, nor do I look down on them...unless ya know, like everything else, you can't control it.
I've listened to BoC sober and drunk - neither one really produced a more or less desirable outcome.
...but in all of the talk of drugs, it is still nice to know that there are some others who don't use mind altering drugs to enjoy this music - and I don't mean that as condescending at all.

Even alcohol I leave out when going to a show (anyways who wants to jump into a mosh pit completely drunk or stone dead?) but as you, I haven't noticed much difference in My listening to BOC either drunk or not. The most profound effect I find to alter BOC's music is when I go out, be it in urban settings or in the country.

Wait, I thought that was me.
I've never touched any illegal/controlled substances and have no plans to. I want to keep my body pure, and I don't want to become an addict because I dislike the idea of being a slave to anyone or anything.
Sounds like we're on the same page. *hug*

Room for one more?

I don't have any desire to mess with drugs, but I won't put myself on any sort of pedestal for it. I mean, it's like Tao said... You're not better or worse off if you're not using drugs, just as you would be to use them. It's a personal choice, and nothing more or less.

Well exactly. Drugs have a lot of negative connotations so I can understand why people would think drug users 'need' substances to enjoy things. Really though, my current living situation means that from the end of November to the beginning of June, I've not had many opportunities to indulge, but I can still enjoy a nice sunny day, boards of canada, fantastic art, I can still be creative, and be comfortable with myself all the same.
I would never (and could never) recommend anyone do anything with drugs - it's absolutely your own decision, and people have just as much of a right to say no as they do to say yes. Looking back to my life before and after I started experimenting, though, I wouldn't change a thing. Drugs for me - and most people, I would expect - are as much about learning as they are having fun.

Utilizing any sort of psychoactive substance to generate a novel listening of music isn't something to look down on. I would have respect for someone who decided to brave Geogaddi on some psychedelic or at least commend a stoner on his good tastes for putting on some rarity tapes in a smoke session. I for one have only started listening to BoC in the past year, past the honeymoon of my experimentation, but I feel that if I had BoC while I was still beginning then I would have used both in conjunction and realize some incredible insights into myself and the world.

Many people have a view similar to "If you need drugs to appreciate music then you don't really like that music"
I don't have that view but I've never really taken anything with the intent of listening to BoC after.

I will paraphrase something the infamous D4 said once, on these very boards:
"I've gotten incredible kicks from things you'll never know, and that's all that matters."
