Agreed, this track has an intense heavy weight of emotion to it.

Ah, nice spot. Though I feel a bit stupid, as I initially read what you wrote as 'the first 3 letters of Sundown spell out the word SUN.'

Well that's true as well, the first 3 letters of Sundown do spell out Sun.

The initial notes are:
A#C#D#F#

These notes show up prominently in Split your Infinities right at the beginning. Play the two beginnings right after each other. I feel like I hear them in Reach for the Dead as well. but y'know, could be reading into things.

Is there something to this? BoC don't struggle with coming up with interesting melodies so I don't believe they're accidently re-hashing a melody from three tracks prior.

Yep the melody does have that Poly 61 kinda feel, I used to own a Poly 800 which has a very similar texture

the synth chords are the same (or similar) to JC

reminds me of the "stalker: call of pripyat" soundtrack, as does "semena mertvykh"

Definitely a similarity to Corsair as others have noted, at least at the beginning. I get a sense of peace on this track, an ending of sorts...more of a pause maybe.

Maybe I'm biased as sunset is my favourite time of day

Has anyone noticed that...
1. There's a slight "click" at around 1:15-1:16
2. Some kind of "breathing" noise is present throughout the track (best audible at 1:18-1:24)

Agree. I believe that the intro of Sick Times has a strong resemblance to Sundown. It's like parts of one big picture.

at 1:41 it starts to descend, followed by the coldest chill I've ever felt at 1:49. one of the darkest tracks on TH for me

Yes, the ambience is pretty nice on this one, it's like cooling down after psychedelia of Nothing is Real and getting ready for the assault of New Seeds

one of my favourites on the record - there's an intense emotional weight to the textures and sound you hear that seems to hang there even after the track has finished

i think this track perfectly sums up the feeling of 'beautiful desolation' that they were going for

I like how this track plays with two different tonalities, the higher and the lower, they complement each other, going back and forth, but tat the and it seems like the higher tone is going to end it, the lower ends it instead, with such ending that ir really feels like the end. complete shut down. it even more impressive if you look at it like "sundown" imagine you gazing at the last moments of the sun going down and the last sun rays stroke and warm your body, face and then it's over...

well i posted that about 4 years ago.

i still hear the similarity to corsair. but i absolutely love this track now, one of my favorites on the album.

awesome how time can really make you appreciate a track or album

I know this is a weird statement but for me Sundown might be one of their best tracks ever. There is something in the production and chord structure that is unlike anything I've ever heard before, but at the same time it's as if I'm hearing something that already existed within me. I think that's when you know you've made something that is genius, when you create something that feels like it has always been. It is one song that completely and utterly captures the essence of it's name.

Can we assemble this album already and do so without it being some strange conspiracy? This track picks up exactly where the melodic layer of Split Your Infinities (Sick Times sped up with minor deviations composition-wise and more dramatic ones when the melody exits) ceases to exist and contains fragments of almost every root on the record.

I won $50 on a bet that the audio from the number records would be in the LP. I'm very close to saying I'd place that same amount of money on the line, if not more, in saying that the track containing that at its end is also the credits sequence to the 'film'.
