I suppose that's one interpretation. That or the future of humanity as the industrial era energy bonanza comes to an end and we're left attemping agriculture in an unstable climate and limited access to the petrochemical derived fertilizers that kickstarted the "green" revolution, fresh water due to aquifer depletion, and messed up ports to hamper international shipping due to sea level rise.

Though the communism angle is one I haven't thought through at all. Care to elaborate?

That would be that a frog thrown in a pot of boiling water will inevitably hop out, but if you put it in a pot of cool water and gradually bring it to a boil, he will cook without even noticing.

there's not a whole lot to elaborate on. each BoC album is a reflection of the times in which they were published, TH is no different.

since the 2007 crash there has been a big shift in academia and elsewhere out of liberalism into socialism then communism (zizek & friends). the same goes for christianity/the rest of religion/spirituality(speculative realism). i assume the brothers have noticed this due to their previous interest/comments on the macro issues of humanity.

I still don't think BOC are necessarily aware of or a part of this project, my post from two years ago at the top still stands.

I'm just bringing this back to say that I suddenly thought of it again today, and read the manifesto.

It left me... not sure how to describe it. I've known (or suspected depending on your view) for years that we are headed for something. And I've wanted to believe that we have enough time to revolt and- fuck it. No point explaining, most of you who know me know my political views (broadly socialist/anarchist/communist). But it's just something that, you know, we're aware of it. And it eats away at many of us, especially in the western world. And we deal with it in different ways, most of which are unhealthy. But mostly we try as much as possible to keep collapse at the back of our minds, and sate our desire for escapism through physical and mental consumption. And that's what I've done, but reading this was excruciating. I felt I was being dragged down, deeper, closer. You could even say 'down to earth'. Moments like these make me dissociated; They make my vision fuzzy, send me off balance. They send my already racy head into overdrive, making connections I don't want to make, giving me a deeper awareness.

I don't know how this is all going to end, and I'm filled with despair, so I'll just end this post here.

The fact is our planet isn't capable of supporting the world's population living a western middle class lifestyle, yet that is what the entire global economic system (which has the full support and protection of effectively all governments, media and corporations, with support from the police and military, if necessary) is geared towards delivering.
I'm not suggesting anything, just that people should think about what that means and come to their own conclusions.
It's comforting to think that someone is in control somewhere, that someone has a solution, but everyone's effectively in the same boat, with our fingers crossed that someone will figure it out.
Having said all that, what leads from that doesn't necessarily need to be pessimism, just thought, and action perhaps, which can be fulfilling, perhaps even fill a life.
