Indeed. Threads (1984) dealt with nuclear war but one of the take away messages for me was that vital elements of civilisation are so intricately intertwined that disruption of a few elements could lead to total collapse.
As characters from the 70s series Survivors often said "How many people and skills do you think were needed to make this spoon?", suggesting that even the simplest items we use today go through so many processes to be made, and the disruption of any one could mean that it can no longer exist.
So yeah, totally agree with you - it feels like the album is about an event of some sort, whether acute or chronic, that disrupts civilisation in such a way that it totally collapses, as we know it. Not necessarily nuclear, but that's certainly a good candidate.

It's so cute how everyone think's their opinion is right and unbiased.
To be blunt, there is no way to know for sure about ANYTHING.
We can only simply take in our perceptions and draw conclusions that may not be very concluding.

yes. its ambiguous as to whether its acute or chronic. either way the message doesn't change. ecology too, everything is connected to everything... i feel like people interpret that as metaphor when its just cold-concrete reality. the idea of controlling nature is an illusion because we are nature... and to try and control nature to the extent it happens today will eventually be paralyzing.
