Maybe the best electronic album this year.

Today I received the album and I quickly put it in the CD player and skipped back to hear the 'hidden' part. It's not a structured song but more a few little songs with a total length of about 5:30 minutes. The first song starts with a very BoCish synth which gets assistance of a lovely paino piece, a lovely little gem! (about 2 min long)
This song is followed up by another short piano piece with a slightly Japanese touch to it. Right after that a lovely middle age sounding violin song.

This need to be heard a few more times and not to be forgotten, this is in contray to the Ae hidden part on EP7.

Man.. listened to about half the album on the way home from work tonight.

Very inspiring. Actually, probably the most inspiring album I've heard in a while (with Unomia from Helios a close second). The orchestral/string bits scattered throughout are definitely what I'm most comfortable with musically (but trying to get away from).

Chris Leary (that's Ochre?) has some absolutely incredible composition skills.

I'd also recommend checking out the live set on his site: http://www.ochremusic.com and there's another one on his myspace page as well. More free tunes, can't beat that!

My love for Ochre's Lemodie, let me count the ways...

This is an album where, if I'm not paying attention, the music will simply pass me by.

But the moment I begin to listen closely, it bursts to a life of nimble details and variegated colors that is simply without peer. The combined tambre (texture) between the melodic strings and the synthy bass is just delicious, and the melodies in the albums second half are heartbreakingly emotive.

Easily the best electronic album I've heard all year. Here's to hoping I have to revise that statement once the new Squarepusher finishes downloading!!

For me it's already the best album of this year, i can't imagine the new Squarepusher beating that.

So.. where are people getting the new Squarepusher?

Upon further review the decision stands as called on the field.

Despite what else I've seen said, the new SP underwhelmed me on first listen. Granted many albums tend to do that given my expectation (Campfire Headphase for example), but it certainly doesn't take things as far forward as Lemodie. Its the comparison of someone whose breakthrough and inspiration to music was 10 years ago, versus someone breaking new ground today. And Lemodie blew me away from square one.

I'm going to have to listen to it more, but at the moment I still find Ultravisitor as the ultimate summation of Squarepusher (with Big Loada my favorite). Lemodie reigns supreme!

all said its a bit of an apples and oranges comparison, but for me they are two of my favorite artists.

Fuck. I knew he had a music degree. His music is just dripping with education.

Ah yes. Lemodie regularly hits a sweetspot between melody, texture and arrangement. Satisfying on pretty much every level. It's to his credit that his scholarly background doesn't cloud the great tunes whilst still giving it significant depth. Only Helios has had the same effect on me recently.

My favorite Squarepusher album is still: " Music Is Rotted One Note " [1998] that blew me away when i first heard it! I will listen to the new album do.
