Yeah this is an interesting listen; some really good vignette pieces.

Artist here, thanks for the shoutout, my friend spotted this and linked me. I never go into a track/recording thinking I'll make something that sounds like BOC, but their music is just so ingrained in me it seeps through anyway. I actually emailed in some Geogaddi hidden meanings waaaay back in the day that made their way into the wiki. Obsessed with that album

I think 1991 is probably the best artist around atm with a BoC influenced sound. He takes it in his own direction by really laying on the fuzz and tape hiss; but it's so tastefully done. Massive influence. All his albums are really good.

I also think Legowelt's non-techno stuff has a definite BoC inspiration, although it's more 'contemporaneous' and influenced by many other things rather than outright BoC worship. I did a 2 hour mix of his ambient sideprojects if anyone is interested; he does a lot of stuff under bizarre psuedonyms but there's so much gold to be found (tracklist in comments). Health warning: large amount of arpeggiators in this bad boy 8)

I've done a bunch of other shows, all ambient/drone for the most part with a heavy BoCish slant, search 'Percival Pembroke' in Mixcloud and you'll get them all. cheers!

ha, awesome, thanks for signing up and taking the time to reply. I know what you mean re: the accidental nature of producing BOC sounding stuff, I make music myself and have been so deeply affected by MHTRC and Geogaddi that I can't help but create output that has tones of their magic in there.

Seriously love your stuff, that dreamy arpeggiated vibe is right up my street, which is why I also love Legowelt, I'll defo check out this mix. I also look forward to your future releases immensely. :)

ps just out of interest, are you all ITB or do you have a load of outboard gear? I love your production style, regardless of how you do it.

I'll second, third and fourth that. Bought Autumn / Winter Catalog on its original release in 2015 and it's one of the best things I've heard in recent years - I still listen to it regularly. @apricotsystems, thanks man. You created a genuine masterpiece.

I always thought BMSR was pretty obviously inspired by them

That pembroke stuff is rad, just bought it, Cheers!

I too know what you mean about inadvertently making BoC style tracks. For me it happens when making synth vignettes like yours. Definitely when I break out the SH09 or the JP4. I probably have quite a few piling up that will not go anywhere. I'm glad people like you are not ashamed to put out your stuff that has obvious influence, forget people saying it's bad form to copy. It's not, just means we get to hear more great music and BoC obviously won't be releasing any more in the old styles so... all good.
The stuff I have put out has BoC influence but also you can hear influence from other places I think, I dunno ha.

"Birds Of Canada" is a German deep house track from 2018. Vinyl label reads "Respect to Boards of Canada". You can hear where they were coming from, but the track is kind of rudimental and does not do justice to BoC (IMO).

James Hoden is also part of the team inspired by BOC. The haunting of some of his songs leaves no room for doubt.

It's sad because a deep house track influenced by the Sandisons could have been interesting.

More a breakbeat territory but I guess it counts
