Sorry, just don't have the energy to reply on your post, which is actually well written, you just need to add "in my opinion", and that would add some objectivity on your opinion.
Also isn't reddit is dying, heard that just recently.

Re: Tomorrow's Harvest -- It needs to be said at this point
I appreciate that you think that you have the answers to riddle but you give the artist too much credit of forethought. Yes TH has a concept and yes they have thought it through and yes they have hidden samples in there (too deep in my opinion) BUT... they are normal people and have curated a bunch of ideas and developed them to fit a concept they are interested in and to give an album cohesion. I can only assume they are passionate about what they do and they have reasons to do what they do and when, again BUT... you are projecting ideas onto a timeline that isn't known, thought out, predicted. Things change quickly, you can't plan what happens 10 years previous to what happens now or whenever etc. Not in this kind of instance anyway. Art, opinions, taste, circumstances change.
Anyone can join dots to a past timeline, ANYONE! It might be fun and feel like you're solving a cold case but you not, you're just doing it for yourself, you're not unlocking a master plan made by a creator.
I don't mean to come across mean but by God this place has loses it's thinking head often. I get it though... We love the music from these dudes, all we want is more and in this day and age of throwaway music, genres etc all passing us by on the conveyor, this one stands strong with many. Absense makes the heart grow fonder.
We should have fun while we wait. Yeah, look into ideas but not be so serious about it all, fuck it, why not make more fakes and pass the time using these made up narratives into some fun things you can all bond over.
This place is like a self help group sometimes, you can't bond over just being nice and tiptoeing around. Have debate, argue, make up, appreciate other opinions but also call out things that just don't make sense all while appreciating effort.
Ramble ramble ramble...
Anyway, point is, you are looking for things that are not there. Artists work in the moment and in bitesize timelines in order to produce craft that they are proud of at the time of release. BoC have not curated their whole career from the start for you to work out and publish like a bible.

I have flirted with this, too. The font of the Whitewater logo is pretty sus. Hmm. Add it to the list.

I have met some friends via Twoism by keeping balance and showing compassion, even when there are opposing views. There seems to be a bit more leaning on the "have debate, argue" side from users than the "make up, appreciate other opinions" side within a fanbase of a band that we all adore so dearly. I'd say yeah, there is a small group that appear to be the only ones finding common ground with each other but if an outsider pops in with a somewhat mild radical take, it's game over, man. I'm not insinuating WATER_CAN-_- is an outsider, but I think you get my point.
I found my best friend irl here and that fate was not subdued by constantly shooting down each other's ideas, calling them out, and leaving them in the dust. We actually followed the template you mentioned earlier. We have had disagreements, and we fix them. Folks are sensitive and I understand it's the internet, but boc means a lot to everyone on here and no body should feel reluctant to post an idea here with the fear they will be ridiculed or mocked. I get what you're saying, and commend you for showing gratitude, but it's quite rare around these parts nowadays. To each their own, I suppose.
WATER_CAN-_- wrote:It's just disappointing to me when I see how the band has gone to such painstaking lengths to create such a masterpiece as is Tomorrow's Harvest, and the takeaway is something to do with John Carpenter films. Yeah, maybe musically and the with the 80s score nature of it. But to start talking about a zombie apocalypse or something ridiculous and fictional with no meaning as the takeaway. I mean come on.
I think it should be obvious to anyone paying attention at this point that everything they decide to share with us has a tremendous amount of thought and care put into it (and is almost certainly a balloon)
Societal collapse, climate change, and nuclear war excavating what we once loved is a common ground I believe that most can get behind. I am not aware of the zombie apocalypse reference but that sounds quite informal. I assume this is because the track Collapse has some "zombie-sounding moans" in it? I don't know, never heard that one.
The important takeaway from the meaning of Tomorrow's Harvest is left for the fan(s) to interpret themselves. You said it, luminous said it, and we have heard it from the horse's mouth. There is no harm in theorizing lore for an enigmatic group, though. I welcome it 100%.

I could namely shout out a few people besides your good self who have been so balanced and show that compassion. On heated debate and attitudes, the former I would not count for the site as a whole. If you take the This Random Sound and The Playground sub-forums, for which I stay, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets heated here and there (as I know I has before) but it is definitely disproportionate comparatively. Sadly to the lack of wild side walkers. The spice of life is very much here.
Going back to auld pals, I have a few friendships that have branched out and gone much further than the Boards here. I find philosophical, kind and very endearing folks peeping out to talk to me, it's a good feeling when you're noticed and wanted. I love to reciprocate that. It's human nature. I'd do a lot for you people. (and the slow pace allows, if you know what I mean.
I know the best friend irl you are talking about and it's been an absolute pleasure talking to you both.
Just cheers for these words, I think we can take a critical look at this community more often.

While I do have the energy to perform a more in-depth analysis, I don't really have the time. However, I think what I have presented should be fairly compelling to anyone thinking critically about the band's art for some time and paying attention to the world.
I have thought a great deal about the possible meaning of their art for many years (as I have been an enormous fan for more than 20 years). I also have a scientific background, and am qualified to perform detailed analysis using data.
What I have done here is analyzed the audio, track names (I realized I forgot to mention Sequoia), imagery presented, interviews, and what is known from mine and other's research (bocpages.org). Each of these things can be considered individual data points, which to some degree can be analyzed to give a sense of the meaning of band's art from their own perspective, even if not explicitly expressed and not with high fidelity.
I don't necessarily believe that us as fans not "getting it" is causing them to not release more of their own art for us to experience. I think it's probable that they are mostly focusing on having quality time and enjoying time with their family while the Earth is still relatively pleasant.
However, it's frustrating to me that when Tomorrow's Harvest hit, which is a complete counterpoint to everything they have released prior, I am reading interpretations of the album from people which appear to have not any deep meaning whatsoever. That's just not like the band all, and I thought it about time to say my piece.
BoC seem to be extremely thoughtful, caring people, and it's evident to me personally that they primarily produce art with meaning behind it. I would argue that great art should move people or make people think about something, and I consider BoC's art to be quite possibly the most profound of our time. Perhaps of all time.

As not native Russian speaker in trying to put something cohesive larger than 5 lines. Last time I was engaging in such conversations here was during the topics of Covid.
Btw, I also enjoy reading and finding something new here. Tho, not every text is similarly interesting to me.
As idea of monkey trying not to get electrocuted in order to get the banana, most of my post are trial and error
This is why I started to find boc music very interesting to me and was hooked immediately after just a little unintentional research.
Their music seems nothing special at first but if you look a little closer, or may I say concentrate your attention, you are getting hooked in. It feels honest to me. The way they present their art.
So not to going past TH, people saying that it was uninspired and lack of melody. But I loved that. A simple ambient album on the surface, and it can still be like that if you don’t want or can’t find anything more.
Some people say, they burned their talent and this is why they can’t release an album, cause it may flop. Fair enough.

Re: Tomorrow's Harvest -- It needs to be said at this point
Hold on... the way you are talking Water Can you seem to think you have found the destination of the Holy Grail and you are revealling it to us in that first post. "it needs to be said at this point" speaks very highly of your findings, a confidence in your work that will shock the community.
If i'm not mistaken? all you have found is VERY tenuous links to track names based around nature and that TH is about the end of all that? Are you telling me that they are predicting the end of us by our own hands, right from the start of their career? or are you just saying that TH is a look in the mirror for us as it's actually happening as we speak? hmmm... not sure there is much critical thinking needed to get to that conclusion. TH is obviously that, right on the surface, they might as well have wrote it on the CD spine "look what we've done to the world you cunts!"
I'm not trying to be mean and I know it comes across like that but if someone is going to post that middle school level of brain splurge and talk with an arrogance of it's importance, i'm gonna bite.
Feel free to repost with some more humilty and say something like "Look guys, I noticed some things about BoC, have you noticed these too?" If you did that, this might be a fun thread.

For once here I don't know who to reply to or what precisely to say. I only know I want to say an awful lot.
It comes from many sides to participate and make something fun, and others could waltz in and improve this, not just Water Can, but I don't honestly see a clear effort from you either.
There's only so much you can say to Water Can from this point onwards, I hope it doesn't run you into the ground with repetition (and you are constructive in your above posts.)

You're gonna bite? I have thick skin so I'm not really worried about it.
Anyway, I should clarify a few things as it can be tough to cover all my bases when I create an initial post.
1. I do think the real themes of their art is on the surface obvious (though you say some of it is tenuous, which is it?). However, certainly more richness to their art comes through when one explores all of the hidden references beneath the surface.
2. I am not asserting that BoC had a vision of their entire body of work from the very beginning. However, I do think that this is the direction they decided to go with Tomorrow's Harvest for the reasons I mention. Tomorrow's Harvest, while incredible in and of itself, made all of their previous work that much more impactful which to me is amazing.
3. If the general idea my post is obvious to you, then my post is not intended for you or that part of the community. I have read enough of people's thoughts about the album over time to notice that many people don't seem to get it. Hence my post. You say it's a "middle school" level splurge of ideas. Yet I have not seen anyone here, or anywhere else, present such an analysis. So yeah, whatever you say. I have already gotten a number of thoughtful comments indicating to me that they had not looked at it quite like that before as a result of my post.

Dude we'll hear what you've gotta say but please stop speaking for us. You don't know us and we don't know you. and the fact that you keep separating yourself from everyone else is a little more revealing than you want it to be. If you want to be heard you gotta listen man. No one jumped down your throat til you started throwing 'unintelligence' and 'gaslighting' around. Dude. What are you doing? If you want to have a discussion it is possible, but you've got to be more open-minded.

I stated in my original post that it was my hypothesis. Meaning that I do not know for a fact that what I am asserting is absolutely true.
However, I presented an analysis and pointed out some things which I believe we can all agree are facts. These recurring themes such as the following:
1. An emphasis on the appreciation for the natural world
2. Cult references and irrational human beliefs
3. Nostalgia and memories of growing up
Now, ask yourself where does Tomorrow's Harvest fit into the picture? I think the general consensus is that the band produces art with a lot of meaning.
Don't get me wrong. I would love to hear what people here think about what I have to say. It's the reason I made the post. But if you look at my initial responses, I was immediately getting gaslit. Like what I am pointing out is crazy or has no significance. I did eventually get some good replies, which I really appreciate.
What makes me hypothesize Palace Posy is what I describe? Because we all suspect the name is an anagram for apocalypse, the unintelligible human chanting sounds, and the common theme that I mention above. Do I know for a fact? Again, no I do not. But I strongly suspect.
I welcome everyone's serious thoughts.

Well I suppose there could be a cult like reference to palace posy and apocalypse, Often death cults brand themselves as something freeing, promising enlightenment, Life eternal and the like.. But often the case is that they bring nothing but death for the members and misery for the families left behind.. And the name Palace posy sounds quite cute and harmless on the surface but obviously has a dark hidden meaning.
Fair play, I've never thought about that tune in that respect before

Yeah, just listening to the track I can't really see it being in reference to military choppers. I would be super surprised if it were the case.
