Nobody has mention Pelican yet! I have seen them live 4 times (the most of any band). They are similiar to heavy Mogwai, except their songs are more complex and rely less on building up a slow moving theme, and more on dynamic shifts. They tour often with Mono, and from what I can tell from the conversations i've had with them...are wonderful people.

I'm with you. I've tried to get into GYBE! a million times.. but I ultimately just say.. huh. and change the track.

i'll try again. someday.

I've been listening to lot of GYBE! lately and this is definitely stuff that grows on you slowly. I'm almost addicted. Set Fire to Flames, Silver Mt. Zion etc. have some nice tracks too but not really my cup of tea. I'm also not very keen on post rock with vocals.. the only exception being Sigur Rós which is pure gold.

Then Mogwai... I have "Happy Songs for Happy People" and "Mr Beast", but have very mixed feelings about this band. The albums have couple of tracks that I really really REALLY love (Moses? I Amn't, Ratts of the Capital, Stop Coming to My House, Auto Rock + Friend of the Night) but the rest is.. well, boring.

Oh yeah, and Explosions in the Sky rocks.

i second everything danny mentioned already. karate is a fuckin TOP notch band.

Thanks Fredd-E, I'lll definitely check out some of those bands. Used to listen to Godspeed and Silver Mount Zion a few years back (weirdly, around the same time I got into BoC), and you've just re-ignited my interest again. Can't beat a bit of post-rock for extreme euphoria and simultaneous crushing depression.

haa bloody nice, a post-rock topic. you should really really check out Ex-Cowboy by Mogwai, i think it's a classic. drone on!
