Jasper Van't Hof, the Resonances and April Orchestra all appear on here and it seems to be a catalog of obscure 70s and 80s library music, jazz fusion and electronic music.
But I'm sure it's been combed through already in these past years. It is coincidental that a lot of music from the tape was covered here before 2019.
Drives me crazy that these missing tunes are languishing on some forgotten library LP from 1978 or 1982 or they put their own music on there to make us going on a wild goose chase haha
Yeah that blog has been in my bookmarks before sxt came out. Some interesting stuff pops up every now and then. Hint: if you're on facebook check Vinyle Archeologie group and search for sxt tracks, some were sourced directly from that group/yt channel.
This is the exact version used in sxt. Mind you their youtube channel has been taken down few times in the last 10 years or so, but there is evidence of tracks being on there way before 2019.
This could indeed be a wild goose chase but we can at least be sure that "Soon the queen" and short string track were sourced from vinyl.

I'm very curious of how Societas X Tape came together and this sheds some light on the origins. Thanks! I'm guessing one of them picked out a lot of favorite tracks off of YouTube, put it through their equipment for a BOC tint and then sent it to Warp.
It reminds me a lot of sounds on their LPs and photos they include on the sleeves. A lot of what we see and hear was sourced or sampled from another artist or photo and then clever put together as a wonderful Boccian package.

I was wondering the same thing, was much of societas x just mixes that boc did of certain songs? There is a very cryptic beautiful throughout the whole thing. Just relistened today for the first time since it came out
the weird thing to me is that none of the other unknown tracks bar the first one sound like boc could've made them to me. i suppose U2 could be play by numbers-era shoegaze, and U3 could be a mashup of obscure 70s tracks.
U4 doesn't sound very boc-ish to me, "soon the queen will come our way" certainly isn't boc, and the final two seem like tracks any artist could've made in the 70s or 80s.
"soon the queen will come our way" is by far the one which intrigues me the most. i haven't the slightest clue where it may originate from.
At first, i was thinking that i would not like hearing this, actually this was one of the lastests things i hear while i was exploring the discography, but the selection of rare tracks, the mixture of genres and transitions surprised me a lot.
The chills haven't really returned on repeated listens but I distinctly remember the feeling of "OH SHIT, HERE WE GO!" when it transitioned from the shortwave radio interlude to the June 9th-esque opening chords of Associations. Listened to the whole thing live with one of my friends who's not quite as into the Boards as I am and didn't really "get it" in its entirety but still enjoyed most of it nonetheless, twas a good time! I also remember the discord chat and forum thread both lighting up with activity in a way I'd never seen before or since, if anything it's been the exact opposite on most days lately lmao
Mark my words, next time BoC does something big (I think SxT was their last "big thing") this place is gonna light up like a christmas tree!

The correct way to answer to this question. It's weird but as someone who has heard a majority of the albums these tracks are featured on, there's some special Boccy magic that happens when they all come together. I still feel that magic to this day actually. I even remember the summer heat of 2019 and whenever it gets to be summer time, I play it and the acid memories come right back.
The chat around that time was awesome and hilarious. I remember when they called that Indian singer woman Marcus! Alas we are in hibernation until the next BOC transmission.
