No shame in asking. It's a great question, and I think the answers are fascinating - to a degree where BoC's use of them is incredibly on point, even as a symbol of god, the universe and everything.
Hexagons form the most efficient geometric tessellation in nature, maximizing volume while minimizing perimeter. With benzene rings being a great example, hexagons form a perfect geometric packing structure. This includes crystal lattices, bee hives, compound eyes, snowflakes and turtle shells. They're all around us.
Hexagons also commonly occur in resonant structures or standing waves, like the giant hexagon at the north pole of Saturn, Hemholtz patterns in cymatics, and nanoscale resonance.
Benzene specifically exhibits a phenomenon known as "resonant hexagons", which IMO would be a great track title.
