Nowadays there's no way a US politician is ever going to suggest it be legalised, for fear of beaing seen as a hippie-loving pinko.
Here in the UK nearly every politician has admitted to using it in the past. And it's still illegal.

Another reason is it was grown a lot in mexico, (at the time of Villa and Zapata's revolution) and much of the revolutionary's fundinding came from selling weed. The US governemnt was shit scared that the revolution would spread, or that they would ride up and attack the parts of the southern US that had been fairly recently conquered from mexico, so they tried to cut the source of funding. Whatever your opinoin of the mexican revolution, it's fucking stupid that remains illegal to this day
the real reason is probably that what the government sees as a bunch of stoners cant be good for the economy of the country.

yeah im really going to miss the weed that british columbia has to offer . i don't think i have ever paid or had to search for it here i hope , ill find some leeds in that respect when i move to toronto this summer .*wink wink *
though i still treat it like a drug . and just like a anydrug . i have taken if i take too much i feel like i am dying or wish to . But in the right doses its amazing . for back pain . anxiety , and nausea ... though if i take too much i feel the opposite .. minus the pain i guess . i just get horrible panic attacks and become very paranoid and get very sick .. for this reason i never eat cookies because i never know how strong they are or how much my body is getting ... its not great to be fucked up for days on end ..
Drugs have that name because they are just that .. taken responsibly they are great . Foolishly .. well not so much .
remember kids Drink your drugs and don't do milk ! .

I read a recipe somewhere where you stirr the weed in hot milk...and take a big sip every 5 minutes.They said you'll die twice and it'll feel good.

Dutch Government To Back Cheap Medicinal Weed - 2nd February 2006
Patients seeking pain relief may soon be heading for the Dutch city of Groningen to buy affordable and potent medical marijuana in the country's first pharmacy specializing in the pungent weed.
Although cannabis is readily available in the country's famous coffee shops, the foundation for Medicinal Cannabis Netherlands wants to launch a pharmacy in the northern Dutch city so patients can buy high-grade cannabis at affordable prices, evening daily NRC Handelsblad reported on Wednesday.
Groningen city council member Fleur Woudstra, who supports the cannabis pharmacy, told the paper that while pot may be cheaper in coffee shops -- usually around 10 euros ($12) for the equivalent of 3 or 4 joints -- quality often suffers.
The price of Groningen's medicinal weed will be around 5 euros per gram, which is cheaper than highly potent medicinal cannabis bought at other regular pharmacies, the paper said.
The Office of Medicinal Cannabis -- a Dutch government agency -- and the community of Groningen as well as the local police all support the endeavor.
Two more cannabis pharmacies are planned in the towns of Hoogezand and Assen.
On Thursday the lower house of parliament is due to debate the distribution of medicinal cannabis.
Dutch minister of health Hans Hoogervorst wants it to be possible for pharmacists to sell medical weed up until 2007.
