Yes yes yes to Talisker! I'm about 1/3 of the way through a bottle right now. Quite possibly my favourite too.

Only (Scottisch) single malts for me. So Whisky not whiskEy if you know what I mean.
The 'cheap' and blended (American usually) stuff is far from even equal to it's single malts brothers. I always think when it comes to whiskey's like Jameson or Johnny Walker; yeah nice try, but not so special.
I especially prefer the peaty ones. The smoked and peated are the best. Only the smell of those get my juices flowing.

So yeah, I'm a whisky nerd. And I'm proud of it.

Talisker is a good one (peaty as well).
But Lagavulin (16yo), Ardberg & Laphroaig (16yo) are my favorites.

I recently bought an Ardmore single malt which isn't halve bad .

The 16yo Laphroaig is just beautiful - I like the 10yo too, but the 16 was something really special. I was on Islay on holiday a couple of weeks ago - had a trip round the Jura distillery, their Prophecy was lovely. Had lunch at the Ardbeg distillery cafe, but couldn't go around as I had the pram with me - lunch was a lamb & haggis burger with a relish made using the Ardbeg 10yo - yum!

Funnily enough I tried Ardmore for the first time fairly recently and thought it was lovely.

And yes, Scottish single malt all the way.

my coworker spent what felt like half the day talking on and on about how terrible ardbeg is. to be fair, he's an idiot and drinks mostly vodka. it made me curious to try the stuff. anybody have any tips? he said it tastes like cow shit peat moss.

is that comment in here like throwing a fork in a garbage disposal?

I had some of that about 6 months ago at a tavern and it had a character like bog vapors but that's what I liked about it. What year?

Nah man. Ardberg is really amazing! You should try it. And come on: vodka? Vodka's got no soul. Created by idiot Russian low lives, who hate their life so much that they want cheap alcohol to get knocked out, just so that they can't feel how miserable they are.. It's just plain alcohol with a touch of methylated spirit, no more. Tell your cowork that . Ardberg has a soul, an old sweet, tough and gentle soul. You should respect the soul.

Yeah man the 16yo Laphroaigh is amazing. The aftertaste is so beautiful and lasts so long. The 10 yo is great too indeed.
That trip sounds terrific man. I should do that to sometime.

How have I missed this thread? Lagavulin 16yo for me. Glenlivet Nadurra if I'm feeling swish. If I'm on bourbon, Blantons which is Makers Mark but BEYOND. Got an unopened bottle of Rowan's Creek here for when I've done with my Yamazaki 10. Fuck I love whisky.

Good tip! I do enjoy maker's. It's got a nice sweetness to it for a real decent price.

Just took half a handle and threw some apples/cinnamon bark in it (the real stuff!), hoping for a nice fall drink here in a couple of days..

I haven't tasted much beyond the 'supermarket' single malts, but as mentioned, Talisker and Laphroaig 10 year olds probably my favourites, I'm a sucker for the peat...
Bought a bottle of Aberlour 15yo for my mate for his 40th, looking forward to a taste of it. While I was buying it I bumped into an old friend that I went to nursery, primary and secondary school with, but lost touch with recently, turns out he's a bit of a connoisseur, currently has about 20 bottles and was about to spend £80 on another. His all time favourite is Amrut Fusion. I've also heard good things about Laphroaig Quarter Cask.

The quarter cask is great, but look out for the 16yo - all the Laphraoig flavour, but that little bit mellower.

I don't have much experience with liquor but Irish cream and vodka are both pretty nice.

Alcoholic with 4 months sobriety. I'll be sipping my water in the corner.

4 months, very nice! Keep it strong bruvva! And don't forget: fruit juice is the elixier vitae! Best fucking drinks in the world come right from the ground!
