Aquarius came on the radio once during an illustration class. I kind of freaked out because i didnt expect to hear BOC on the radio. One of my friends told me he liked it better than most of the other "boring ambient stuff" i listened to. He also thought the "oranges" were funny. One girl asked where i found all this stuff in kind of a scoffing manner. Are you from the US Vordhosbn? Because i am surprised how many people were open to MHTRTC when you showed it to them. I think if i put that whole cd on it would get turned off at about the second track. Most people over here have terrible taste in music.

the almost vast majority of people who ive ever experienced being exposed to boards love it, or are at least very intrigued; this includes random people, aquantainces, friends, classmates, teachers and so on and so on and so

No one would have liked Boards of Canada if I brought one of their discs in class. I am shy when this is about sharing music tastes because everybody would obviously react negatively.

what is with this shpongle band? i've been introducing my girlfriend to boards of canada, which is going well, but she has this know-it-all roommate who immediately told her that he knew of a band that was better called "shpongle." we spent ten minutes just trying to spell it right before finding a myspace page for them, and well... to me it is by no means anywhere even comparable to boc. it just sounded like extremely cheesy "house-world-techno" frat boys and suv driving trusty hippies would listen to at raves.

that was a cool post though. my roommate is an art teacher, and i'm trying to get him to start playing boc during his classes and tell me what happens.

haha yeah it seems like most people around here are much more interested in the fallout boy and justin timberlake... and other mediocre pop music being praised for being "innovative"

ive never heard of shpongle, but for some reason im not interested at all... maybe its their name? i had an art teacher that played depeche mode in class once, he was cool. i find boc to be amazing art music, i bet that would go well in class.

Shpongle's first album is really amazing actually. The track DMT is just really awesome. But they lack sincerity if you ask me.

They probably have in a way. They definitely will have watched a fair few old science videos (or even films) in their time so the BOC vibe will have been soaked up over the years.

i've only heard a couple of songs, but when somebody says flat out, "oh boc, yeah i know this band shpongle that is way better," i was actually kind of excited to hear something i wasn't exposed to yet. it wasn't long before i realized it just wasn't my thing. i agree, the reason boards of canada appeals to me is that they make "electronic" music that seems to evoke a lot of feeling where a lot of electronic acts seem really inorganic. imo.

this is off topic, but is anybody else convinced that the grundig tk-24 has a lot to do with boc's trademark sound? i'm sure this has been touched on before, but well whatever.

I was just reminded of when I was a teenager and some of my mates suddenly thought The Orb were the greatest band ever because they'd smoked a joint for the first time. I actually shivered at the memory - and not in a good way.

Like I said I had already given my maths teacher a loan of MHTRTC and on friday he turned round to me and told me that he played it for a 3rd year class (that's two years below me.)
Apparently they all "freaked out" and it was very funny.
