Yeah. I find ambient really hard to like. There must be a immediate click with it. Although I like dreamy music, there has to be something significant about it. And variations are a plus too.

Basinski does some great things. His tape loops and all. But somehow, it doesn't get stuck. Though I think I need to listen some more too it, I can't say that I'm a huge fan of his work.

I can really recommend you guys Alan Morse Davies' The Last Summer. And Machinefabriek, a Dutch ambient collective, is also something worth checking.

Machinefabriek! Yes, anyone who hasn't heard this great artist yet should really check him out. (it's one guy though i think, not a collective, although he has a lot of collaborations going)

my favorite album by him : 'Marijn' , and one of my favorite 'ambient'-albums ever. (Wolkenkrabber!)
But he has a huge discography with lot's of great and varied stuff.

Hm, I thought I read somewhere that it was a collective, but now that I did a RYM search, I found out that it is indeed just this one guy. Rutger Zuydervelt.

And yeah, heard the same thing about Marijn from someone else. For now, I've only found 5 works. My favorites are "Music for Intermittent Movements: Soundtracks for Films by John Price" and "Ranonkel". I also found a collab with Mariska Baars, Robert Deters and Rutger Zuydervelt, but that was nothing special. I like ambient. I like drone. But this was just a really low, penetrating bassline. Not even a line, actually. Like I said, I like the variation (like in the Alan Morse Davies record).

looking for that record is a nightmare... you'll only get it for a nice price if the record is sliced in two and the cover has water damage and cat hair glued to it

oh man! just listening to a 10 minute excerpt of El Camino Real, its so beautiful! this guy never ceases to amaze me and i never bore of his music. to think that he is only 4 years younger than my dad!

old post, but can't say enough how much i love basinski's stuff. el camino real and garden of brokenness are the most recommended apart from the obvious disintegration series. just incredible restraint.

I love Basinski's work.

The unfortunate thing about Basinski is circumstances need to align for a suitable listening environment to present itself in order to hear his stuff properly.

This doesn't happen too often with a young family, and so I don't get to hear him as much as I'd like.
