I think if anything, it will be a process or change that slowly happens as we approach that date, and I don't expect it to be armageddon. Just look at the situation the world is in now, and either way you look at it, there can easily be a very bad outcome or a complete turnaround of where we are now. It's not like something happening in 2012 would be such a great shock, considering how many bad things are happening right now. We're on the verge of hitting rock bottom, and the two outcomes I can see are complete chaos or full awakening. I'm excited .
these are my thoughts exactly. verbatim. well, put my freind. there are certainly two ways things can play out, and im very anxious to see things progress throughout the years, leading up to the day.

The Timewave Zero idea / i ching principle is interesting and thought-provoking. We'll see I guess.

it would help to start fighting fascism (in all its forms) and stand up for civil rights now instead of waiting for the date to hit. i have to also agree with turquoise70 that as shitty as things are right now, historically, it has been much worse. it's an interesting subject to research, but take everything with a bit of skepticism. just like the "war on terror" in the US, let's say the gov't really does plan something around that date, the first thing they'd want us to do is panic. panic is a good precursor to brainwashing imo. make the public think something could happen. anywhere, at anytime.....sounds like boogeyman theory to me. but as lavar burton always said, "don't take my word for it."

totally with turq here.

examples- "end" of the world, vernadsky's noosphere, global consciousness, etc. supposedly, the exact date is december 21st, 2012. something is supposed to go down, we dont really know what, but earths magnetism is supposed to reverse, and its the end of the mayan long-count calendar's thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle, which means it's 13.0.0.0.0 starting point will repeat for the first time in the past 5,125 years. heh, 5+1+2+5=13, thats funny. this alignment means something, apparently, and id state my affirmations, but i want to hear what you guys think first.

by the way, apocalypse literally means "a revealing or uncovering" so i dont want anyone to take that by its literal meaning. ive heard people say that everything will die and end within that year, and to be honest, it always bothers me when people insist on this.
There are a lot of religions that believe in the 2012 idea. That doesn't mean it is 100% real. It's just people borrowing other peoples traditions and beliefs. The whole thing in scientific terms would be the sun, the moon and the milky way will all be a lined on 12-21-2012. This will cause the earths north and south poles to switch, causing the earth to give birth to every kind of known natural disaster. people in the science side of the world do not seem to make this a big public topic now do to the fact that it is based on ancient beliefs. But when we are in the first month of 2012 I think a lot of people are going to be acting different about it. We will have a lot of 1999-2000 type of shit going down.

I do not believe in this. The thing of it is. NOSTRADAMUS didn't write the LOST BOOK, it was drawn and written by either his son or a fanatic back in his time. I watched the History Channel on it and I was very displeased over the lack of evidence they had on the whole thing. He too was to have predicted the 2012 date too. Yeah... waaay after the Mayans did, hahaha.

The Mayan Long Count Calander...

6.5.0.0.0 Fall 650 B.C.

7.12.0.0.0 Winter 118 B.C.

8.19.0.0.0 Spring 416 A.D.

10.6.0.0.0 Summer 948 A.D.

11.13.0.0.0 Fall 1480 A.D.

13.0.0.0.0 Winter 2012 A.D.

13-baktun cycle of the Mayan Long Count, which is December 21st, 2012 A.D. The last date in the Mayan Long Count.

# December 21 — The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the "GMT-correlation" JDN= 584283).[7] The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed.[8] However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The 2012 Winter Solstice will also occur on this day at 11:11:59[citation needed] Greenwich Mean Time.
# December 23 — The alternative date for the completion of the thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle in the Maya calendar, using a version of the GMT-correlation based on a JDN of 584285 (a.k.a. the "Lounsbury correlation"), which is supported by a smaller number of Mayanist researchers.[9]
# December 31 — Expiration of the Kyoto Protocol.

yeah I don't really hold with this stuff if I'm being honest. I do think that we're living in a historically pivotal period though, the actions of our and the next couple of generations will have a radical effect on the future of humans and earth as a whole

This is the first time I've seen this thread since I got the net back yesterday (or at least read it I think)

Since the beginning of the year, I found myself contemplating the whole Mayan calendar 2012 thing. Then earlier today, my dad showed me some stuff he had been reading about a second sun rapidly approaching which is apparently already visible in the southern sky... and we can expect to see it up north sometime in 2009 or something...

There's more about it here...

http://www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com/node/4143

Then I noticed this thread! Coincidence?! Yeah, probably...

Either way you slice it, that date does hold significance... even if it is just the end of the Mayan long count calendar. We'll be witnessing a very historical event in that sense.

Also, that date will be single handedly responsible for killing off an untold number of apocalyptic theories and other bologna. An amazing feat in and of itself!

the only pretty scary thing is that the mayans are the only culture with the perfect callender. Our callender has multiple flaws. Couple of day's off.

ok so i read a bit of this topic yesterday, but really didnt think about it too much.
last night, i had this dream, i guess it was taking place on the day the "apocalypse" is supposed to happen. it was pretty much like that scene from terminator 2. so in the dream, everything is burning and whatnot, and then (mind you i am not religious at all, which makes this dream that much weirder) on the thirteenth day after the apocalypse, god sent down two angels to save the world and restore humanity and whatnot. then my alarm goes off, i wake up, and am in semi-full consciousness, and i hear this ominous voice say "do not disregard the orders of the 13th day angels". weirdest thing that ever happened to me, ive felt strange ever since i woke up.

i became interested in this whole 2012 assumption prediction theory thingy after becoming curious to why i always notice the time 11:11 on clocks...

a lot of the theories seem a bit too far fetched for my liking...although i do believe that something will happen during the course of the next few years.

please don't use the word theory when talking about this bullshit. It offends the scientist in me.

Please don't criticize others' use of words when you don't know the definition. It offends the linguist in me. ;) (I jest, but just for the common good...):

Theory

n., pl. -ries.
1. A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.
2. The branch of a science or art consisting of its explanatory statements, accepted principles, and methods of analysis, as opposed to practice: a fine musician who had never studied theory.
3. A set of theorems that constitute a systematic view of a branch of mathematics.
4. Abstract reasoning; speculation: a decision based on experience rather than theory.
5. A belief or principle that guides action or assists comprehension or judgment: staked out the house on the theory that criminals usually return to the scene of the crime.
6. An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.

Anyway, I was originally a fan of the 2012 idea, but over the past few years I've read so much contradictory information on it that I can't draw any real conclusions except to say that I think 2012 may be a sort of "peak" of one cycle of humanity.

I don't buy the Planet X nonsense, though. End-time apocalyptic wackos have been talking about Armageddon bullshit like that for centuries.

I actually read up on this every day, along with any UFO or alternative news there is -

As far as what i believe, i don't believe any of the specific ideas the media seems to whip out every once in a while, i believe something might happen, but that's the extent of it for me.

The one thing that keeps me interested in this whole 2012 thing is how people are going to be acting once 2012 comes around, and once we grow very close to it, I predict anarchy and mass panic world wide - the media got a hold of this years ago and its getting crazier and crazier - people believe whats on TV these days, at least most of the general population.

Sad thing though.
