In my opinion Geogaddi was beautiful and chaotic, probably someone loves more Geo than mhtrtc. Each album is different in some ways, you ill like one over the rest and at the same time, all are incredible, that means they are genius.

On balance I think I prefer MHTRTC as a collection of tracks... some of my all-time favourite songs are on that album. But where Geogaddi scores is when it's listened to as a complete album, it flows so nicely, each track complementing the last. There's a real arc to the album's structure as well... I can't bring myself to listen to individual tracks off geogaddi, it just feels like reading a chapter of a book then leaving it unfinished. as a result it receives less plays for me than other boc stuff, I really need to be in the mood and have enough time to sit and enjoy (is that the right word?) even though I think it's their best record.

I also think the paganism/satanism/mathematics stuff can be taken to literally, it's just a motif they are playing with to convey the queasily psychedelic atmosphere of the album, and it works really well. It's the most atmospheric and expressionistic record i know of, total masterpiece. And as a wee side note, Corsair is IMO their best ambient track and a perfect bookend to the album.

i must thank you, you sometimes seem to type exactly what im thinking but cant be arsed to type out in the thread. sometimes i just feel we've covered all these bases many, many times on this forum. i'm starting to find topics like this really boring, but please dont take offence whoever started this thread.

You hit the nail on the head with that one. Agreed on how the album sits as an overall piece of work in comparison to MHTRTC. Almost impossible to compare the two or pick a favourite but I'd probably have to go with MHTRTC as that album was the soundtrack to good times and a time for me of new possibities in music.
And I also get that impression too that with the reference points on the album that they are almost paying tribute to old phsychedelic stuff in a kenneth anger sort of way. Only they will know I suppose.

A very good album, but an album nonetheless.

I change my mind all the time on my favourite all time BoC album, but having listened to it on the bus yesterday, and taking into consideration the way it influenced my state of my mind etc., it's back up there as my favourite!
