Ha Ha.
I wondered where this had got to.
Its not the worst ever thread is it?
Some of my others are far worse..

I thought that mike did almost all of the melody writing.
I have it in my mind that he makes most decisions
(maybe cos he is the eldest and in their younger days he had more say).
I see marcus as more of a listener for mike to bounce ideas.
I'm probably wrong but its how i see it.

Oh.. and my missus thinks marcus is better looking..

I read that Mike plays a lot of the drums (live drums)....and Marcus made Farewell Fire on his own and Mike made Tears from the compound eye and Gyroscope on his own.

Can anyone remember which of them became depressed during the making of Geogaddi? I seem to recall it was Marcus but I can't seem to find the interview that mentioned it.

As similarly part of a duo, I obviously see certain parallels in working methods, and from what I've read I'm closer in terms of role to Marcus. I'd like to think that it's a genuine 50/50 partnership that they have and after a while it becomes hard to recall who did what to a particular track.

I recall that tidbit from one of the later interviews, couldn't tell you which off hand. They said it's basically a single straight take at the keyboard.

yeah, thats correct. Mike was the one who was depressed during Geogaddi. Mike dreamed about Gyroscope then made that track exactly like the nightmare and it still freaks him out how much that track resemble his nightmare.

I remember reading that Pitchfork interview as if it was yesterday
Pitchfork: Are you coming from musical families?

Mike: Yeah. And of course it's a big help when your parents play instruments...[pauses]. Actually can I just stop the recorder there for a second?

[Recorder is switched off. Mike asks Marcus if it's ok to talk about it. Marcus says yes. Mike checks if the recorder is off and explains that they are in fact brothers, but have concealed that as they didn't want to provoke comparisons to Orbital, the electronic duo of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll, when they started to release records in the mid-90s. Recorder is switched on again.]

I think most people who've just had a line or two would strongly disagree that they're losers

I must say it is waaay cool to snort expensive white powder

I hate "entertainment drugs". Get slammed in the face with a jack-hammer of emotions, crazy ideas, dreams and filosophic thoughts is more my thing.
