Are the old tunes up to scratch?

Magic teens, geometric piss, northern plastics, she is p, sir prancelot fire, it's a whole 'nother year, original nlogax, bmx track. The track that really grabs me though, is 'rodox video' OH MY GOD, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE TUNE!

I'd say, yes.

People are right when they say it sounds more like a demo tape. They are just that! But there are a handful of songs that are unmistakably BOC, as we know them now.
One of my personal favourites is the original HiScores track. It is just perfect. If you listen to it, you will know what I mean.

I've just recently heard some of their old tracks, and while some of them are very good, most of them are only appealing (at least, to me) in that the listener is hearing BOC in their infancy. They're mostly a nostalgia trip; I don't think most of the tracks measure up to their official releases. Still, they are interesting to listen to in order to understand the genesis of BOC.

Besides, I'd rather hear some new BOC than old. I'm very curious to see where they will go next with their sound.

Welcome 1969ITS! (great track!).
I can understand if one doesn't like the old tunes as much as the official releases. The official releases are more polished, complete I guess. But in my opinion I must agree with audiotrack; the further back, the more I like em! This doesn't mean I don't appreciate their official releases. I adore those as well. But I couldn't do without the old tunes. I love the short tracks in particular (davie addison / fly in the pool, statue of liberty). The melodies and the whole atmosphere of most old tunes breath an almost undiscribable nostalgia, which I feel real deeply. I love the concept of most of them. It's so original, so unpredictable.
What do you think of sequoia? Especially the last part. I think that melody is so genius!

I love Forest Moon too much. It's one of those tracks where I wonder why they never reused it in later albums like they have with a few others.

I agree about the appeal being that we're listening to one of our favorite bands in their early years. This applies to just about any musician really.

I still dont get why they havent officially released these already.
There must be more to it than they just "never wanted to!".
Its a shame they leaked like they did and we have to put up with low quality versions.
Still great tunes though..

Most likely because of the following reasons:
a) they're not completely satisfied with the outcome of a lot of these tracks (e.g. quality subpar)
b) sample licensing issues

In the back of my mind I've always wondered if BoC leaked the old tunes themselves. They obviously dont care about the money, and it's just the type of mysterious, ground roots release they'd be into. And then, if you look at it that way, it really hasnt been that long since a release from BoC! You guys probably think thats dumb, haha i dont know, it's what i like to think

I think they mentioned that they didn't think their fans would be so interested in their old stuff. This was also the same time they hinted at a box release.

tis a good theory. makes sense in alot of ways. as for the untitled stuff i dont know. why would they do that?
